TO OUR GRADUATES OF 1940 The idea of a garden is expressed in the word kindergarten Of course your kindergarten days are long past. Soon you will be known as graduates of Christian High. But high school too is like a garden, for it is a place where things grow . . . human plants and human flowers. And Christian High is like a garden, for teaching here is not a mechanical, but rather a spiritual process. Here teaching is not a pouring process, but one of nurture, wherewith an environment is created in which the whole person can develop to his highest capacities. It was here that you grew, in body and mind, and we hope also in Christian love and social competence. Keep on growing! . . . Grow in tolerance and conviction, in love to Cod and to your fellow men, in understanding and service. Live in our stupid and self-seeking world as youth of light and faith! May there be for each of you a progressive attainment of significant Christian personality, a development of your capacity to its height and depth, its breadth and width, so you may live life richly. It is consoling to your teachers to know that as years go by there will exist in your inner life an unforgettable memory of goals sublime with Christian idealism which were set before you during your years at Christian High.
