Jane Greager Terrell Niblock Members of the National Honor Society are those students who have done outstanding work in class and in other clubs. The four symbols of this society are Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. The highest honor paid to any student is becoming a member of this organization. STEERING COMMITTEE The Steering Committee is made up of the senior class officers and several other seniors who are responsible for the money-raising activities for the senior trip. These students control the various activities for raising money. 40 G.A.A. The G.A.A. is an organization made up of girls who are interested in all kinds of athletics. The girls participate in various kinds of sports throughout the year to earn points toward their letters. To receive her letter, the girl must acquire a prescribed number of points before the end of the year. Mrs. Juergens is the sponsor. RADIO CLUB The Radio Club consists of students who are interested in radio and electronics. Members meet during the month at school and also at night. With some additional study a member may obtain an amateur's radio license. 41 F.T.A. The F.T.A. consists of students who wish to explore teaching as a profession. Members of this organization are active in such activities as grade school visitations, panel discussions, movies, and services. F.F.A. The Future Farmers of America is an organization made up of boys interested in learning the art of farming. Members of this club operate a farm, thus making use of the knowledge they acquire in class. This club is sponsored by Mr. Charles Best. 42 F.H.A. The F.H.A. is an organization that consists of girls who have taken Home Economics for at least one year. The girls work for their various degrees by performing a certain project each year. The goal of the F.H.A. is to make a better tomorrow. The sponsor of this organization is Mrs. Eggers. BUILDING TRADES Building Trades is comprised of boys who have taken Industrial Arts for two years. These boys build a complete house every two years and then sell it. Money paid for the house is used to build the next Building Trades' house. Mr. Oda Sitzes is sponsor of this organization. 43 SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club, or Ferreters, is made up of students who are interested in science. Each member is required to make a project every year in order to remain a member. Some of these projects are taken to the District Science Fair to be judged. The sponsors of this club are Mr. Limbaugh and Mr. Fuqua. CONCERT BAND The Chester High School Band is an organization consisting of students who are interested in music. The band plays at home football games, the majority of the home basketball games, and in the concerts given during the year. The band also marches in several parades throughout the school year and summer. The band is one of the most active organizations in the school. Mr. Wayne Thorne is the director. MIXED CHORUS 1 tf? ?l The High School Chorus is made up of students who like to sing. This organization participates in concerts with the band and also at Southern Illinois University choral clinics. Any student may belong to the chorus. Accompanist this year is Carole May. Mr. Wayne Thome directs the chorus. CHORALIERS The Choraliers are a select group of students from the Mixed Chorus. These students sing at various organizations in Chester. The Choraliers are selected from the chorus on the basis of their ability to sing.
