, x ,!i. W -Asxv Elass flisfvry X We entered CHS September, 1952 with fifty-five members, and had the honor of being the last class of CHS to be initiated. For the first half year, not knowing each other very well, we chose a chairman, which was Ronald Betts. The beginning of the second semester we chose real officers. Philip Plumb was elected Presidentg Peter Swart, Vice Presidentg Marjorie Duprey, Secretaryg and Fay Gabert, Treasurer. Our class advisor was Mrs. Orcutt, then Miss Alexander. Our class dues were set at 35. Mr. Jillson's English class presented in assembly the following plays: Initiation and High School Daze. The latter, directed by Gloria Spaulding and Philip Plumb, was considered one of the best plays to ever hit the CHS stage. Our regular class play, directed by Mr. Thomas, was The Trader. The basketball team won the Southern Vermont tournament, that year, with the help of one of our members Bud Quimby, and four Freshman cheerleaders. In September, 1953 forty-eight of us reported back to CHS as Sophomores. We chose as officers, President Philip Plumb, Vice President Ronald Betts, Secretary Gloria Spaulding, and Treasurer Derry Ann Hazelton. Our class advisor was Mr. Newton. Dues were set at 37. That year the Newtons invited us up for a party with dancing and picnic. Our class play for that year was The Valiant, directed by Mr. Newton. Our Student Council representatives were Ronald Betts, Marjorie Duprey, and Derry Ann Hazelton. This year we started thinking about our class trip and began the money-raising with a Sox- Hop. In September, 1954, forty-one of us returned as Juniors. We chose as officers, President Philip Plumb, Vice President Ronald Betts, Secretary Derry Ann Hazelton, and Treasurer Gloria Spaulding. Mr. Newton was our class advisor. Our class dues were set at 557. The following had been chosen as our Student Council representatives: Fay Gabert, Ronald Betts, Derry Ann Hazelton, and Carol Cole, who was also Vice President. Carol was chosen as assistant manager of the Curtis Campaign. Mr. Newton directed the class play which was the mob scene from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, We put on the annual Halloween dance, and the Junior Prom among other things. Ronald Betts was chosen King of the Prom. Last came the Alumni Banquet, which we met with fried chicken and enthusiasm. At last in September, 1955, 39 of us found ourselves Seniors. We chose as officers, President Ronald Betts, Vice President Philip Plumb, Secretary Derry Ann Hazelton, and Treasurer Gloria Spaulding. Again our class advisor was Mr. Newton. Our class dues were set at 85. The senior play, presented in Chester and Weston, was June Graduate. Our Student Council members were Ronald Betts, Beverly Sherwin, Marjorie Duprey, and Derry Ann Hazelton, who was President. The head of the Curtis Campaign was Carol Cole. We welcomed the Freshman class with a dance, not onions and lipstick. Joe Swett went to Kansas City for the F.F. A.g and Melvin Stowell, Jerry Foster and Elmer Willis went to Eastern States, also in connection with F.F. A. The annual Christmas Dance was given. We went on the class trip going to New York and Washington D.C. Finally the big day, our Graduation from CHS. So concludes the History of the class of '56 at CHS. Marjorie Duprey, her sparkling personality to Howard Henry. Norma Evans, her working habits to Rodney Willard. Won't it seem good to get your home work done on time, Rodney? Joan Finnegan, her quiet nature to Alice Suojanen. Jane Foster, her ability to attract the attention of the Londonderry boys to Brenda Parker. Maybe it will help you catch that man, eh Brenda? Jerry Foster, his old hat to Marion Johnson so she won't have to keep snitching it from him. Fay Gabert, Jr. , his place as goalie on the soccer team to Joe Krupsky. Lois Griswold, her dancing ability to Carleton Kenyon. Barbara Gosselin, her fine voice to anyone who wishes to try out for A Cappella Choir next year. Wilma Grover, her typing ability to the girls in fifth period typing class. Derry Ann Hazelton, her good marks to the Freshman Core classes. Marion Hershberg, her ability to entertain Richard Hart to Marie Melendy. Marilyn Hill, her bass fiddle to anyone who thinks they're big enough to play it. Jackie Holden, her ability to be calm and quiet at all times to Tom Lazetera. Mabel Johnson, her ability to keep one man to Gloria Mackey. Lillian Kalinen, her ability to chatter to Lynnville Jarvis. Virginia McGrotty, her managing ability to Donna Wheeler. Kenneth Noor, his entertaining personality to Bobby Macey. Sandra Parker, her height to Ellen Danforth. Norma-Gene Patch, who has a ring for every day of the week and two on Sunday, leaves these rings to Marilyn Allen. Marilyn, we hope they don't get you in as much trouble as they did Norma-Gene. Philip Plumb, his physique to Victor Mazzella. Howard Quimby, his excellent skill in basketball to Frank Chico. Use it well, Frank. Patricia Russell, her shortness to Pat Plumb. John Scullin, to Dickie Arrison, all his good times in English Class. Kenneth Selmer, bequeaths the enjoyment he's had in F. F. A. to John Aldrich. Beverly and Nancy Sherwin, their men to anyone who has lots of spare time. Gail Spaulding, her diamond to Carla Barlow. Gloria Spaulding, her basketball experience to Joanne Nason. Melvin Stowell, his old jalopy to John Marshall in the hopes that he will drive a little slower than Mel did Elaine Strong, her high C's to Arthur Blais. Josiah Swett, his acting ability to Jon Druhl. Patricia Wilkins, her ,vibrant personality to Karen Keith in hopes that she won't be so quiet. Elmer Willis, his embarrassing blush to Clarence Jelley. Zippy, to CHS--Self Control. All the class of '56 leave to Mr. Newton our appreciation for his patience in the past three years as our homeroom teacher. Q. . A slight twitching and our victim comes around. There's a long, low whistle and, if it isn't Phee Noor! 1' : Looks like he finally got that '40 Ford on the road. fHe probably had one eye on the road and the other on a . ' ' pair of legs.J As we glance away we see two Air Force uniforms striding toward us. Jerry Foster and Elmer Willis are f fr., S ,' G ... :V X still buddies. The class of '56 has their share of 20 year men! Bud Quimby is a ONE STAR GENERAL in the Marine Corps. Brother! We pity those Boots that are in his regiment. He probably has them for breakfast. This seems to be a class reunion! Marilyn Hill and Elaine Strong are just coming out of Room 36. Wonder if they're still telephone operators? We'll ask them. . . . . . Excuse us, Sir. Well, Ken Selmer! It looks as it he broke another finger. Coaching must be real rough! Now where did those girls go? We'll try this room ...... Oops, Children's Ward. Isn't that Lillian Kalinen? It sure is, visiting her sick pupils. Wonder where Derry Hazelton is now? lt seems as if I've heard something about her lately. Oh yes, Derry and Eleanor Cook recently won the S100, 000 Question and now -fi! All are taking a trip around the world. Seems ff!- as if once an honor student, always an I T. honor student! flncidently, Phil Plumb Y 6-M must be doing well in the enginneering field, as he sponsors the show! 's place I as the G. 1. 's Favorite Pin-up. This article on the Wife ZLQX jil l 1 K5 of the Year' is X Q ' interesting. Well, what do you know! Pat Wilkins, Gail Spaulding, and Virginia McGrotty are all tied for first place. We must congratulate them! They're naturals for the honor. Lucky husbands! There goes an interesting convalescent.
