CLASS HISTORY The memories of the four years of our high school career at C. H. S. will always be dear to us, the seniors. How often we will look back and realize the happiness we have enjoyed here, the friends we have made, the knowledge we have gained. The big school on the hill seemed quite for- bidding to that freshman class of 1948, but its members soon took an active part in the life of the school. Of course they first had to be initiated by the seniors in the customary manner. Then, eager to prove themselves worthy members of C. H. S., the freshmen began to participate in sports, musical groups, and the various clubs of the school. The capable leadership of the class rested upon the shoulders of Helene Lapointe. president, Edward Bacon, vice-president, Kath- erine jewett, secretary, and Barbara Sawtelle, treasurer. Miss Bidwell was our class adviser. With the return to school the next September we were no longer those green freshmen, but we had become gay, young sophomores. The sophs started the year off right by electing a class cab-- inet. Helene Lapointe was re-elected president, Reginald Dragon became our vice-president, while Ann Erskine took over the duties of treasurer, and Barbara Sawtelle was elected secretary. Our class adviser was Miss Alexander. Our soph- omore class was well represented in all of the school activities. Some sophomores participated in the 3 one-act plays, and in the spring how thrilled we were to help a little in publishing the Chester Chatter! Certainly we juniors felt superior in our re- sponsible position as upperclassmen when we began our third year in high school. Miss Alex- ander again became our class adviser when we moved into room 13 as juniors. Ralph Stoddard was chosen to govern our classg Kay Jewett was vice-president, Claire Roy was secretary, and Sylvia Saari was treasurer. Among the accomplishments of the junior class were three dances. Our first was the annual Hallowe'en dance as a result of which we established a reputation for good decorative schemes. We then undertook a Winter Sports Frolic, and in june we sponsored the traditional social highlight of the year, the junior Prom. Ours had an undersea scheme of which we were justly proud. We worked hard in our activities as juniors. Class members were now on the staff of the Chester Chatter and Flamstead Challenge as reporters and business assistants, many were in the plays that spring. Then we reached the end of our four year journey and became seniors. The class happily took possession of room 15 and chose Miss Alex- ander to be its capable class adviser for the senior year. We then re-elected President Stod- dard, chose Robert Webster for vice-president, re-elected Claire Roy as secretary, and selected Ronald Stocker to be class treasurer. After we had taken care of the freshman initiation and had given the freshmen a recep- tion, we settled down to do some serious studying, for we surely wanted to be prepared for college and the future after high school. We gave a chicken pie supper which was a tremendous success. Then we tried out for parts in the Senior Play, Two Gentlemen and Veronaf' The cast pre- sented the play in Chester and then traveled to Londonderry, Proctorsville, and Weston where the famous stars acted before the footlights of the Weston Playhouse. Basketball practice began and seniors worke.l hard on both varsity teams. Those non-athletes faithfully cheered the teams on, and how sad it was to see the seniors play their last game of their high school careers! We gave a ham supper and worked hard selling candy noon hours to obtain funds for the class trip. April came and we took a trip to Washing- ton and New York which was most successful. Then, suddenly, commencement time had arrived and this time it was our class, the class of 1952, which was graduating. We marched down the aisle to the strains of Pomp and Cir- cumstancegv we were given our diplomas, and then we were pushed gently into life. Next year our place will be filled by another class, but the spirit of the class of '52 will never be excelled. To the class of '53 we extend our sincerest and most heart-felt wishes for as enjoyable a senior year as we have experienced. CLASS ODE As we come to the end of our high school years, As we start out in life on our own- May we ever live up to the ideals and hopes That our hearts here at Chester have known. The friends we have made here are many, The sorrows we've shared here are few. May we never forget the wonderful years- For all these, dear Chester-Thank You!
