D€DICRTIOn MR. JAMES DeROSE Our class remembers James V. DeRose, who came to Chester High School in 1944, and who was head of the science department for sixteen years. We remember him as an excellent teacher; as an understanding friend and as a brilliant man with a soft voice, keen insight, and a nice sense of humor. Mr. DeRose inspired his students to value knowledge, truth, and integrity. His own love for knowledge was reflected in his teaching. To our school, he brought the Chemical Bond Approach and the Physical Science Study Committee courses, which were at the time still in the trial stages and which emphasized individual thinking and understanding of concepts rather than facts. Every stu- dent who was fortunate enough to have these courses, has had a very valuable experience in learning. Although one cannot really measure the good he has done for our class and our school, we would like to thank him by dedicating the Nineteen Hundred Sixty-One Annual to Mr. DeRose. 4

Dr. Leah Jordan came to Chester High School in 19J5. In 1957 she became head of the English Department and served in the capacity until 1960 when she left to join the teaching faculty of Kutztown State College. In 1948 she founded the Karl E. Agan Chapter of the Future Teachers of America which has become an outstanding organization. Her dynamic personality and teaching skill not only influenced her students and professional associates while she was at Chester High, but they have instilled in those who remain, a desire to still pursue the high goals she set forth. Because of her great contribution to the school and community, the Class of 1961 takes pleasure in dedicating its yearbook to this outstanding American educator. DR. LEAH JORDAN
