.FOREWORD Theme and Valfiationsf' How often this phrase occurs in concert programs. lt sig- nifies that the central theme will be played in many styles and moods, perhaps as a simple folk tune, a martial beat, or a light airy dance. lt will be happy or sad, fast or slow, just as the artist desires. So it is with our education from here on. We have so far developed only the central theme, the basic framework of our future. Our variations will also include the simple folk theme-those who prefer to make homes and rear families. Others will hearken to the martial beat of the armed forces. A goodly number will prefer the more stately, serious presentation and will seek a scholarly interpretation of the theme. Wliatever our preference of mood, our stylelin the 'cVariations, we are all deeply indebted to our Alma Mater for developing the basic theme, and to the faculty who set the tempo, swiftly for some, not so fast for others. May our melody as developed in the pages of this, the 1955 Annual, linger for- ever in the halls of Chester High and be- come an inspiration for the classes that will follow.
