THE WIZARD OF OZ. was the biggest production ever to be performed at East. The cast numbered over 130 and included elementary students for Munchkinland. Over 45 special effects helped to make this fantasy come to life. Under the dedicated and skilled direction of Robert Nation, the cast was able to perform won ders in a short time. The excellent choreogra- phy of Barbara Hall proved to be a challenge to even the best of dancers, but the end result was worth all of the hard work. Complimenting this, Marilyn Grisham expertly directed the vocal portions of the show. This year's pit orchestra was one of the finest ever. Conducted by Bruce Yurko, their professional sounds set the perfect mood for each scene. The hard working crews, under direction of Thom- as Weaver (scene and lighting design) and Peggy Beck (cos- tumes). were also of superior quality. Given the shortened pe- riod of time, they still managed to construct the realistic and aesthetically pleasing sets that framed the exciting perfor- mances. Though a bit ghastly to some, bringing back memories of some old horror picture, the Annual Cougar Blood Drive was a roaring success. Almost meeting the goal of 200 pints, with a total of 175 donors, the Cougars will have aided those most in need of the life sus- taining fluid. A sweet sense of giving filled the air. even the library's annex was open to do- nors. who enjoyed donuts and orange drink after making their contribution. Of course there was a bit of pain involved (just a pinch), and several sick- ly looking souls who disliked the red bags, but it was all a part of the great cause. When the American Red Cross truck finally rolled off with its pre- cious cargo, the Cougars knew they had done their share. 71
