East and West drawing forces for the pre-game show Scanning the field The 1981 Homecoming was surely a great exper- ience for this year’s seniors. The first annual Punk Dance was an introduction with colorful cos- tumes and a fantastic dance contest. The activi- ties began with the election of the Homecoming queens and their escorts. Then, that final day came, the East - West game and Homecoming Parade. The Cherry Hill East Marching Cougars performed a spectacular pre-game show, followed by the faithful red-and-whites. At first, a winner was unclear, but by half time the minds of the fans were becoming more and more certain, even though the score was still zero to zero. The high- pitched action was interrupted by the gala Home- coming Parade. The queens and escorts were car- ried around the track in a procession of sleek sports cars, trailed by some of the most spectacu- lar floats East has ever seen. Then, late in the game. East pulled ahead of the failing West team, and the real winning Cougars finally came through. Surely this was one of the most action packed Homecomings in all of East History.
