East is like a river, a river of knowledge, and all of the students must try to swim through it. There are many tributaries that converge to form the river. These streams are the wide curriculum of- fered at East, all of which contribute to the flow of knowledge through which we all swim. A student’s study habits and academic ability may be looked at as his adroitness at swimming. A good swim- mer will move easily downstream, a bad swimmer- will struggle with every stroke, and the non- swimmer will drown. Only the good swimmer can successfully maneuver his way through the curves and obstacles of the river in the ephemeral time given, but the reward is worth it - his trium- phant arrival at the ocean we know as the world.

Spirir Week Where but East can one tour the world in eighty days while passing through stars with minds amazed? We emerge from our summer slumber and recommence the daily rituals of school, when, like a bomb. Spirit Week explodes upon us. It jars our brains and invigorates our spirits in preparation for the strenuous activities that await us. Almost immediately, all four opponents, like bees buzzing about their hive, busily lay the founda- tions for their themes. Masses of paper, scissors, and glue merge into fully decorated halls, while props such as balloons, space ships, and hot rods find their places in the novel atmosphere leading into the frenetic Cou- gar Search. Soon, the delectable aroma of freshly baked cakes garnished in red and white, fill the air with a fragrance that keeps many a curious onlooker lingering in A wing, each with his own excited taste buds. Later, the pennies, quarters, and dollars clank with metallic splendor in support of the King and Queen, that lucky couple leading their class to victory and opulence. Cul- minating in the gallant Pep Rally, meeting the fall sports teams and cheering them on while watching those neo- imagist air guitarists” strum in a delightful pantomine. Spirit Week departs, giving way to Spirit Year” in the Cougar’s lair. Quiet please Never say diet! Business is great todayl
