8 Class Histor by Pat Ragan and Linda Dumas In 1948, confused and excited, our educational journey began at Center Elementary with Mr. Mann as our principal, and Mrs. Ingram, Miss James and Mrs. Graham as our teachers. We cried a little and a few feelings were hurt, but we were on our way toward new horizons. In the second grade, our teachers were Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Norton, and Mrs. Stanley. We learned many things including reading, writing, subtracting, and chasing boys. We advanced to the third grade. Our teachers were Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. Bates, and Mrs. Broom. We then proceeded to fourth grade, a little bolder and a year older. Our fourth grade teachers were Miss Burns, Mrs. Stanley. and Mrs. Killingsworth. In the fifth grade our teachers were Mrs. Price, Miss DeBerry, and Mrs. Ragan. We were beginning to feel important now as we lacked only one more year in C.E.S. We entered C.C.H.S. more frightened than when we started to elementary school but eager to see what it was all about. Our teachers were Mrs. Young, Mrs. Waite, and Mrs, Scroggin. Much to our surprise and delight Brenda Day was elected Homecoming Queen. Our seventh grade ended with a C1358 picnic at the park. On to the eighth grades we learned more about how to get around in high school, and some were even brave enough to skip classes. Mrs. Brock and Mrs. Blair led us patiently through that yeat. We went to Birmingham on our class trip. Our next step in high school, our freshman year, we were progressing very ra- pidly and some of us were actually learning. Our ninth grade teachers were Mr. Graham and Mrs. Howell. Cheerleaders were elected from our class and our boys started going out for football which made us very proud. At last we were sophomores which sounded high and mighty to us. This year brought many new thi.ngs some very complicated and hard for us. We had new and different subjects such as biology and algebra. Some in our class were even invited to join the Beta Club. Time marches on and so do we. We entered our junior year with much anticipation. We worked hard especially on our prom and accomplished many things. We had dances and sold Christmas cards until we finally had enough money to give the seniors abeautiful prom which was set in an Oriental garden. We ordered our class rings and calling cards. Our Junior Play, Quit Your Kidding, was a big success. We went to Lake Rhea on our class trip. Our Junior year soon came to an end. Then came the glorious day we became sophisticated seniors. We started our senior year off with a bang. We received our class rings which made us officially seniors. We had a Christmas party out at the V.F.W. and had a wonderful time. We were also in the race for Homecoming Queen, We worked very hard, and much to out regret, we lost. But no one can say we didn't try. The Juniors gave a beautiful reception and our Senior play was a great success. We then started making plans for the sad day when we would leave the place where all our dreams were shared, where the joys and happiness of new and lasting friendships began. We leave C.C.H.S. , the faculty, the halls, and the grounds with a pleasant memory of the happiest days of our lives.
