I 045 Chattanooga I-Iigh School is now completing three score years of service to Chatta- nooga and to this country. The first graduating class, that of 1879, consisted of five mem- bers, four of whom are still living. This year the graduating class has over three hundred sixty members. More than hfty-three hundred students have been graduated during these hfty-nine years, and many others have completed part or all of their secondary education at Chattanooga High School. These alumni have gone forth to play their role in the drama of life. In peace, in war, in industry, in the professions-in all desirable activities--they have done and are doing their part-better, we believe, because of the training received in this school. During these years the student body and faculty have created and maintained a high standard of scholarship, of ideals, and of conduct. We are the stewards of this great heritage to- day-at a time when, from afar and even in our own country, ideas antipathetic of this Republic to the bed rock principles are being promulgated, and at a time when economic and social life is facing great perplexities. I am sure that Chattanooga I-Iigh School will do its part well in helping solve these problems and in making this a better country. CREED F. BATES. A Tribute DR. ANNETTA TRIMELE, Registrar A.B. When founded and organized by Professor Wyatt, C. 1-1. S. was located on the third floor of Second District School and graduated its first class in 1879. This class contained only live members, four of whom are still living. The building now housing Dickinson Junior High School became the home of C. 1-1. S. when the Second District School burned, and remained such until 1921, when new de- mands made it necessary for a new building, Wyatt 1-1a11, to be erected. A greatly en- larged student body necessitated two new wings, which were begun in 1935 and completed in 1936. With Our present facilities C. 1-1.
