Peabody College Progress is indeed the keynote for Chattanooga High School. This school has developed from a tiny one-room building into its present capacity. In 1872 five students received the honor of being the first graduates from Chattanooga High School. Their school was located on the third floor of the Second District School. Professor Wyatt, who is remembered as one of the foremost citizens of Chatta- nooga, founded this institution and was principal for many years. A few years later the Second District School burned, and the school was tem- porarily moved into the present Dickinson Junior High School. A greatly enlarged student body necessitated the removal of C. H. S. to a still larger place, Wyatt Hall. At this time, in 1921, the present school was built. Then in 1934, the growth of the student body made it necessary for two wings to be added to C. H. S. With these additions, C. H. S. became one of the leading high schools of the South. DR.
