A Year of Growth Yellow Jackets 1968 Cliattaliooch.ee, Florida Chattahoochee High School Before Everything in our life must have a be- ginning and an ending. In the begin- ning our minds are vacant and free of all things. As we begin our journey through school, the learning process begins to develop from a mind empty of the knowledge of life. We begin to understand some of life's myster- ies. We grow into manhood and wo- manhood during this process of learn- ing. From an empty foundation to a complete knowledge of lifehood that is to be filled with the understandings of people, is our primary goal. Emp- tiness should be filled with associa- tion with other people. 2 After Table of 4 Contents Favorites Page 73 Activities Page 79 Athletics Page 87 Elementary Page 109 Advertisements Page 127 Senior Directory Page 142 Foreword This year life at C.H.S. has been exciting—a year of qrowth in many ways Probably most evident is the face-lift- ing our school has had. We are all very proud of our new building. This year has led us to renewing old acquaintances and making new responsibilities and new pleasures. In the 1968 Yellow Jacket we have tried to recapture some of the scenes around our alma mater that have gone into making this year a success—whether it was com- peting in Jr. Miss Contest, cheering at a Ball Game, working on extra-curricular activities and or just plain going to class- es. Much work has gone into this year- book--we hope you enjoy it. 5 Dedication Throughout the years, you have been a guiding hand to the many students who have passed your way. In times of trouble and dis- tress you have been ready to help, to console , and to encourage. By your untireing devotion to the needs of the student body, we have great- ly benefited. Therefore, we, the annual staff, dedicate this annual to you, Mrs. Iona Eubanks. Mrs. Eubanks 6 ADMINISTRATION Principal’s message to the staff, students. and friends of Chattahoochee High School I wish to take this opportunity to extend my thanks and congratulations to members of the Annual Staff, Mr. Broox Jones and Mrs. Janice Rodgers, Annual Staff Sponsors, and to our staff members and pupils who have had a part in making the Annual of 1968 a success. Some of your experiences in 1967-68 are recorded on the pages of this Annual. May these memories be cherished by you and your friends in the years to come. I sincerely wish each of you a profitable and enjoyable life. With Best Regards, James H. Gardner, Mrs. DeVane--Sponsor. Future Teachers of America was founded in 1937. The FTA is important to the teaching profession. There is a continuing shortage of qualified teachers in selected geographic areas and in subject fields and levels. The popula- tion of the United States continues to expand rapidly. The unprecedented explosion of knowl- edge means that today's child must learn more in order to be a useful citizen. With more children to teach and more knowledge to be taught, we must have more teachers. To preserve the high standards of teaching and to supply the personel needed in the next few decades , teachers have a responsibility to attract able and talented students to their pro- fession . The FTA has become and will continue to be a vital source for encouraging able students to enter teaching, a developer of professional and civic leadership, and an important program of the NEA and state education associations. 54 Library Staff Front L. to R.--T. Located in the building is the new high school li- brary. The library can accommodate a class and others who wish to come. Working in the library are 31 very efficient and helpful students. Since we have the new library, we have more room and also we have acquired many new books to fill the extra space. Our magazine room serves as a very effective reference and source of information. Maga- zines of several kinds and daily newspapers are all available for the use of the students. 55 Photo and Art: L. to R. Seated: The Yellow Jacket Staff Beginning the year as thirty individ- uals gradually we molded into a single working unit. Our purpose was to produce the best '68 YELLOW JACKET possible. The work-taking pictures endlessly, writing body, typing , and doing layouts in a different manner than ever before because of the change in companies is really never done. We hectically meet our last deadline with a sigh of relief. As the books are finally distributed, we feel fully rewarded if the finished product sat- isfies the student body. We are grateful that we could contribute to our YELLOW JACKET. Each has left a part of himself in the YELLOW JACKET. Homecoming at CHS is a big event. The Homecoming Court consists of an attendant and escort from each grade, ten through twelve, and a queen and king. The attendants and escorts are picked by the class of which they are to rep- resent and the queen and king are picked from the Senior Class by the Seniors themselves. The night of homecoming is really a big festive occasion. The band plays while the attendants and escorts walk onto the field. Then the big moment arrives when the queen is escorted onto the field by the king, and is crowned the new queen of CHS.
