1954 Alpha to Omega 1966 Since that fateful day way back yonder in 1954, old C.H.S. has not been the same. We have undoubtedly run off more teachers than any other class before us, and there is really no telling how much money doctors have made from prescribing tranquil- izers for teachers. We weren't really as bad luck in the first grade, but boy, as those years passed away, we became known as the Terrors. Our group which has survived the total 12 years is: Mary Jane Davis, Bettye Smitherman, Ronnie Smith, Robert Hayes, Tommy Owens, Judy McLarty, Gerald Wester, Karen Smith. Peggy Runkle, William Dickson, Tim Elder, George Young, Billy York, Elaine Nardini. Peter Whiddon, Stan Franklin, J. B. Thigpen, and Linda Johnson. Our first year of school was filled with firsts. George managed to kiss Mary Jane when the teacher wasn't looking, we were cowboys and cowgirls in our first May Day program, and Robert Hayes and Vicki Pate were members of the King and Queen's Court. The second grade proved to be just as enlightning as the first. Ervin, Eugene, and Clarence joined us this year. Stan was just irresistable, consequently Peggy, Mary Jane, and Judy got their first tapping on the hand for flirting with him. Mrs. Franklin's room was always confused and this was really proven the day everyone said Amen to the pledge to the flag. Linda was so confused that she threw a whole ice cream cone out the window, only to look out and see it on the top of Mr. Adkinson’s head. We were hysterical but it wasn't funny to him. Upon reaching the third grade we became experts on the stage. We used to put on skits in our rooms, and when May came, we put on Snow White for the May Day program. This is the year Beth Waters came, and she had the longest hair any of us had ever seen. Producer Clower got so angry at the cast one day that she banged her paper weight down on that little bell of hers and broke it. After that we had a good time for the bell wouldn't work. Dianne joined us in the fourth grade. Tommy decided to start being a man early, so he shaved his eyebrows. This is the year we studied Florida history. In the fifth grade we were introduced to Hal. Mrs. Grubb gave us demerits and merits, and we were always erasing demerits and marking merits. Mrs. Curry's class had a butterfly collection. Mrs. Grubb's class presented an Easter Parade of teachers and all the girls borrowed the teachers clothes for this event. In the sixth grade Larry and Barbara joined our bandwagon, and was it ever a band- wagon. Mr. Neely gave his whole class a paddling because Ellen Sheip jumped on Peter's back and Mr. Coley saw her. Mrs. Hollis's class had a sleeping garden. We took field trips every Wednesday, and usually half the class ran wild in the woods while the other half hunted mushrooms and tadpoles. The mushrooms Mr. Mrs. Hollis ate, the tadpoles were strictly for entertainment. Paul joined us at the confusing time of the seventh grade. The very first day of school, five people missed a whole class because they didn't know where to go. We had our first class party this year, and it was a hay ride. We learned to make book re- ports. We learned the art of exchanging them for the next year or two so all that most of us ever read was Tom Sawyer, Little Women, and Treasure Island.
