You, our students, during this school term, have worked diligently to perform tasks, and you have been successful. May you always put forth your very best effort in whatever you seek to accomplish. This Yellow Jacket” of 1966 is filled with rich examples of the many experiences we have enjoyed together this school year. The selection, organization, and publication of the 1966 Yellow Jacket” has been achieved by members of our annual staff and its advisors, Mrs. Charline P. Scott and Mrs. Janice Rod- gers. To them we are especially indebted. Our seniors are presently on the threshold of experiencing life’s great challenges and rewards. 1 wish each of them my best wishes on whatever endeavor they seek to undertake. Dedication Because he is our friend . . . encouraging, advising, and contributing his warm understanding whenever we need him . . . Because he has guided us enthusiastically and often lent us the strength for success . . . Because he is a teacher who arouses in his students a new faith in their ability, who instills a love of truth and honor, and who. by the sincere dedication of his abilities, has inspired those about him . . . This instrument, part being printed and the residue written, was subscribed, pub- lished, and declared by the SENIOR CLASS OF 1966 as and for their last Will and Testa- ment, in our presence and in the presence of each other, hereupon, subscribe our names and titles as attesting witnesses this 24 day of May A.D. 1966. Title Title 1954 Alpha to Omega 1966 Since that fateful day way back yonder in 1954, old C.H.S. has not been the same. We have undoubtedly run off more teachers than any other class before us, and there is really no telling how much money doctors have made from prescribing tranquil- izers for teachers. We weren't really as bad luck in the first grade, but boy, as those years passed away, we became known as the Terrors. Our group which has survived the total 12 years is: Mary Jane Davis, Bettye Smitherman, Ronnie Smith, Robert Hayes, Tommy Owens, Judy McLarty, Gerald Wester, Karen Smith. Peggy Runkle, William Dickson, Tim Elder, George Young, Billy York, Elaine Nardini. Peter Whiddon, Stan Franklin, J. B. Thigpen, and Linda Johnson. Our first year of school was filled with firsts. George managed to kiss Mary Jane when the teacher wasn't looking, we were cowboys and cowgirls in our first May Day program, and Robert Hayes and Vicki Pate were members of the King and Queen's Court. The second grade proved to be just as enlightning as the first. Ervin, Eugene, and Clarence joined us this year. Stan was just irresistable, consequently Peggy, Mary Jane, and Judy got their first tapping on the hand for flirting with him. Mrs. Franklin's room was always confused and this was really proven the day everyone said Amen to the pledge to the flag. Linda was so confused that she threw a whole ice cream cone out the window, only to look out and see it on the top of Mr. Adkinson’s head. We were hysterical but it wasn't funny to him. Upon reaching the third grade we became experts on the stage. We used to put on skits in our rooms, and when May came, we put on Snow White for the May Day program. This is the year Beth Waters came, and she had the longest hair any of us had ever seen. Producer Clower got so angry at the cast one day that she banged her paper weight down on that little bell of hers and broke it. After that we had a good time for the bell wouldn't work. Dianne joined us in the fourth grade. Tommy decided to start being a man early, so he shaved his eyebrows. This is the year we studied Florida history. In the fifth grade we were introduced to Hal. Mrs. Grubb gave us demerits and merits, and we were always erasing demerits and marking merits. Mrs. Curry's class had a butterfly collection. Mrs. Grubb's class presented an Easter Parade of teachers and all the girls borrowed the teachers clothes for this event. In the sixth grade Larry and Barbara joined our bandwagon, and was it ever a band- wagon. Mr. Neely gave his whole class a paddling because Ellen Sheip jumped on Peter's back and Mr. Coley saw her. Mrs. Hollis's class had a sleeping garden. We took field trips every Wednesday, and usually half the class ran wild in the woods while the other half hunted mushrooms and tadpoles. The mushrooms Mr. Mrs. Hollis ate, the tadpoles were strictly for entertainment. Paul joined us at the confusing time of the seventh grade. The very first day of school, five people missed a whole class because they didn't know where to go. We had our first class party this year, and it was a hay ride. We learned to make book re- ports. We learned the art of exchanging them for the next year or two so all that most of us ever read was Tom Sawyer, Little Women, and Treasure Island. Kathy came in the eighth grade, but we weren't sure if she was in the right class because she was so short. This is the year that Elaine got caught by Mrs. Perry for writing notes about Byron. Kathy and Billy won the best-dressed prize at our Sadie Hawkins Party. When we reached the ninth grade we decided we'd better settle down and learn something. We read Great Expectations in English, learned a very few formulas in Al- gebra and a few other odds and ends. Mary Jane and Stan were given the American Le- gion Award at graduation. Barbara McPhaul joined us in this momentuous year. The tenth grade brought about even more surprises than before. Pat got a bicycle for Christmas. We were introduced to Mr. Barnett in English, and those of us who had Spanish I had a double dose of him. The biggest farce of the year was our four Biology teachers. About all you could say was that they came and went. Peter, Jimmy and Ronnie were guardsmen and Tommy and Gerald were cute little clowns. We had five join our class this year, namely Othel, Jimmy, Charlie, Pat, and Charles. Our Junior year, when Jerry, Linda, and Frances joined us, we were just one year away from graduation.. The first semester was pretty quiet except for our Chemistry, Geometry, and Advanced Math classes. However, after Christmas things began to hap- pen. We got out class rings in January, And we gave the Seniors a prom in May. The theme was Symphony of the Sea. Charlie, J. B., and Tommy were members of the State Championship Basketball team, and Peggy, Bettye, and Judy were Cheerleaders. Barbara McPhaul attended Girls State, Stan and Tim Boys State. At last we reached our glorious Senior year. We had a great Basketball season, losing only one game in the regular season. Tim, George, and William played football on our not so great team. As term paper time arrived, we didn't have to write just one paper, but we had to write five. Karen chose a topic for her final paper that hardly anyone had heard of. We really learned what the bound magazines were in the library for and what's more how to use them. Jimmy Brooks joined us the second semester of our Senior year. As one can see from the history above, the Class of '66 has been into everything. We’ve gotten into some things which we shouldn't have, such as spit balls on the ceiling and paper wads sailing through the air. All in all, though, the last twelve years have been filled with many unforgettable events which we nor any of our teachers shall ever forget! Step right up! Quick orders are our special- ty!
