YELLOW JACKET Presented to the Student Body of CHATTAHOOCHEE HIGH SCHOOL JO Bythe 5S f W SENIOR CLASS W Compliments of the CITY of CHATTAHOOCHEE Once again it is my privilege to express appreciation for the loyalty of the many students who make up our high school family. It has been good to work together these two strenuous, eventful years. As you look back upon the interesting days of the past years, may your remembrance of your high school days be richer as you bring to bear upon the problems of life the experiences you had at Chattahoochee High School. Even our problems have not been without benefit. We have faced them realistic- ally and have felt that victory is sure and certain. The class of 1958 has wrought well. Each member ,ias written his own indelible recotu. fvlay the years ahead be challenging and satisfying as you go forth in a world that is ready for your contribution. Paul A. Coley Sponsored by J. H. McDONALD CO. We the class of nineteen hundred fifty-eight dedicate the yearbook to Mrs. Mary L. Watson. She has given her services both willingly and faithfully. We appreciate her en- couragement, valuable instruction, companionship, and sincere interest shown us during these past years in Chattahoochee High School. We had quite a football season. I think our fans were very skeptical because of our 2-7 record the year before. Their attitude changed very quickly after our first game with Bonifay. Spirit and team work prevailed as never before. With a great deal of pep xform Wayne Holman, Champ James, and Stillman Whigham, we sneaked past Bonifay 6-0, on Francis Hewett’s lone T. D. This was his first of the season. Francis went on to become the second highest scorer in the Big Bend, behind his stalwart line. Newcomers to the starting line-up proved to be a valuable asset when Big Francis was out in the Apalachicola game. Juniors, Clark Gibson and Tol Parkman, really were rough when the odds were down against the Sharks. We did win that one, 12-9. I sup- pose our toughest one was the Greenville game. Jimmy Ramsey was the work-horse who led us down to the 15 yard line. A pass from Charles Hewett to our ace end, Bobby Barbree, was the breaking of the Pirates as they, too, fell before us, 6-0. The game we really wanted was the one with Graceville. We were both tied in the conference, won-lost, with 3-0 records. (We were unscored on at that time, incidental- ly). When we arrived in Graceville it had been raining all day. In fact, it rained during the entire game. Charles Hewett literally swam for our T. D., as the water was about 6 inches deep in some places. Our win over Graceville gave us an 8-win, 2-lost record and the first Panhandle Conference Championship. Coach Griffin, (Mr. P. E. to us), was named Coach of the Year at a February ban- quet. Other awards were made to a very deserving team. Although our basketball season record didn't come out as well as did the Football, at least we gave half of our opposing coaches stomach aches as we almost split the season with a 11-13 mark. Behind our flashy guards, Charles Hewett and Bruce Helms, we placed second in the County Tournament. In the Conference Tournament, we could get only fourth. Francis and Bruce were the only boys from our quintet to make All-Con- ference. As I write this today, we leave for Blountstown for the District Tournament. I don’t guess I'll be able to tell you the outcome. 1 know that our Yellow Jackets will surely be fighting to go to State, with all the team work and spirit with which we are possessed.
