CLASS HISTORY On September 8 1949 forty four eager students entered themr freshman xear at Holden School and qurckly filled all the seats ax allable ln Room 4 That was the class of 03 Mr Herbert was our class adv1sor We elected the follovsmg officers for the com1ng year Presrdent James Kmson Vlce President Lynwood Babbxtt Secretarv Barbara Bashaw and Treasurer Dorothy Bradlsh The few aCt1V1t1es we had durlng the year were sellmg refreshments at two basketball games and sponsoring one socral Later on during the year we lost two members of our class Rodney Lawrence and Barbara Gates The following year found forty five entermg our sophomore year in Room II wxth Mr Herbert still our adv1sor Because of thxs we were all happy We elected that year Presldent Caroline Adams Vlce President Harvey Hill Secretary Virginia Hrghter and Treasurer Larry Young That year we sponsored a very successful May Dance and one or two socials We lost from our class Madeline Poisson and Lynwood Babbitt but welcomed to our sophomore class Janet Colburn Andrew Kennet and Elizabeth Royce In April we very happily moved to our new school and were put m the largest room avarlable with Mr Herbert agam our adv1sor We fimshed a very successful year here We were all looklng for ward to the first full year spent 1n our new school When we returned to school as Juniors we were more dlgmfied fat least for the first dayj but as we got 1nto the swmg of thmgs we acted more like our old selves s1lly and full of the dickens Our new officers were President Harvey H111 Vice Presrd nt Marilyn Kmson Secretary Betty Smith and Treasurer Larry Young That year we found some new faces with us They were Albin Johnson and Eben Phelps We regretted losmg some old friends Mary Benware Grace Dav1s Lorra1ne Footland George Bashaw Raymond Kmson Wayne Dav1s and Andrew Kennett In 1952 thlrty seven semors entered their last year of school We rushed to the same homeroom and were happy to fmd our same adv1sor Mr Herbert T his year we had lost Elizabeth Royce and later Beverly Chase We seldom sat st1ll all through the year and have been on the go smce last Septem ber We held many dances and socrals We also sold many thmgs during the year such as Christmas cards pencils and pms We put on a play Stage Struck which was one of our greatest successes We worked hard for a long time on our Year Book and are very proud of the result In Aprll we spent all our hard earned money on the usual class tr1p Although it took much penny pmchmg thought and help from our advlsors we will never regret it We feel fortunate that we were able to stay in New York an extra day a total of tive days therefore being able to benefit much more from the trip as a whole It is mterestlng to note that fifteen of the thlrty six semors have been together each year from the first to the twelfth grade They are Carolme Adams Gordon Adams Dorothy Bradish Jane Burney Nancy Clark Nancy Davis V1rg1n1a Highter Marilyn Kmson Ronald Martel Larry Merrill Audrey Stevens Faye Sherwm Larry Young Normand Beaudry and Betty Sm1th It IS also lnterestlng to note that 1n the four years of h1gh school we have been fortunate enough to have the same adv1sor Mr Herbert We the class of 53 wish to thank Mr Herbert for all his cooperation and advlce because without h1m many of the thmgs we d1d would not have been possrble We also wish to welcome the new semors and wlsh them all good luck We hope they w1ll have as good a txme as we have had and can ga1n as much through their class mates teachers and advisors as we have been able to do 1n the past year Dorothy Bradzsh 17 v- ' v 1 1 . 1 . . . ,.- . , , 1. CLASS PROPHECY It IS a very warm day in June 1963 I am sitting reminiscing of the good times I had at Charlestown High School when my thoughts are interrupted by the Jangling of the doorbell I opened the door and was confronted by a woman dressed in a postman s uniform bpon closer scrutlny I recognized my old class mate Joan Sylvester She explained to me that she wrote so many letters to a Marine she ran out of money for postage stamps and the government let her have the Job to pay for the stamps She said that Albzn Johnson another classmate was foreman at Bryant s Machine Shop She handed me a package and gaily departed The package contained my new ll ho s Who and I immediately became engrossed in the contents The cover was very well done and upon looking in the corner I saw the signature of Eben Phelps On the title page in large letters were the names of Davzd llzllard and Dorothy Bradrsh editors Among the names on the first page I recognized that of Carolzne ldams She IS a nurse at Warm Springs and has been of great help in the battle against polio Barbara Bashaw has the distinction of being the only stewardess in Jet airline history Of course the pilot is none other than J tm Ixznson Normand Beaudry has gained recognition because in a debate with Mr Einstein he dlsproved Einstein s theory M arzlyn Brown and Gazlze Stoughton have become internationally famous in the music world Marilyn plays the piano while Gailie sings They are now touring Europe with a show which mcludes the famous chorus girls Janet Colburn and Florence Sawyer Other classmates have gamed recognition in the enter tainment world Maxme has her own television hour a variety show which features debates quizzes news and dramas Joyce Gzbson is the featured dancer at the Stork Club Merrzll and Tuttle comedy team has run its nearest competitor out of busmess and are in demand all over the world Nancy Clark is 11sted as Miss Letter Writer In 1953 she wrote over seven hundred letters to one sailor No one has approached her record yet Of course everyone knows Nancy Dav1s who became our first woman president A review of her Kznson created Nancy s style pacing hair do Dave s Raves Betty Smzth IS notorious for her now famous concoctlons Glutton s Collin and Fallen Tombstone She served these soda fountain spe CISIIUCS to President Dav1s and was elated when Nancy survived Eddle F zsk is hsted as owmng the largest store in Charlestown It covers six acres and Eddie has provided Cadillacs for the shopper s convenience Ernest F rohoclc is famous for his brain surgery He recently removed a brain the size of a pea from a concerted senior at Charlestown High Btll Gregory became Commander in Chief for the moon after leaving West Point Vzrgznla H zghter a graduate of Keene Teacher s College is employed in the Charlestown schools at S200 per week A portrait more beautiful than the Mona Lisa is pictured as being painted by artist Ronald Martel of his lovely model Allce Morse Beverly Royce s name was another I was familiar with She is operating a trailer camp and drive in movie Faye Sherwzn is working w1th Nancy Rawson at a neighborhood house in Boston They are engaged in a drive for funds Harvey H zll became the first baseman of the Red Sox followmg his graduation and in the off season is a buyer for Macy s Audrey Stevens IS his secretary The Class of 53 has another contribution to the sport s world Larry Young Larry became center for the Celtics when McCauley retrred During the off season Larry operates a chain of diners On the last page of the book was the advertisement which read Do you wake up in the morning half dead? See Gordon Adams Man Builder Hell build your muscles up so fine women will swoon and say He s mine Apply at the Army recrurtmg otiice I am pleased to see that my class mates have had success in carvlng their careers in their respectlve fields Surely so progressive a group is hard to find Me?
