Student Visits Switzerland Last Year, when I was selected as Baldwinsville’s A.F.S. candidate, I knew that I would have the opportunity to spend the summer in another country. What I did not realize though, was that the 2'A months that I would spend in Eglisau, Switzerland would have such a tremendous effect on my total outlook on life. My Swiss family and friends will always hold a special place in my heart, and the things I learned from them will always have a great bearing on my life. My summer was a learning experience that broad- ened my awareness of the world around me, and made me realize how wonderful it is to open yourself up to someone else. The time we spent together was short, but our memories of each other will last a lifetime. I am very grateful to have such an opportunity, and I would like to thank all the people who made my A.F.S. trip possible. 122 Chris Coker Visits from Australia This past year has flown. It seems that I arrived only yesterday, yet soon I shall be returning to my home in Australia. I’m never going to forget my experiences in Baldwinsville-school, field hockey, football, a beautiful white Christmas, learn- ing to ski, and most of ail, everyone I’ve met and come to know as a friend. People have often asked me if I’ve missed my home and my family. Yes, I have at times. But, during my stay here, I’ve lived, not as a tourist, but as a member of an american family and I’ve found I’ve been living a whole life here-sort of a twelve-month life time. Although back at home I have friends and family who mean a lot to me, here too, I’ve had friends, family, and a life. Many of the barriers between different people are caused by misunderstandings. A.F.S. is an organization that is helping to break down those walls. They’ve given me, and countless other students, the chance to go and experience and learn about other people’s ways and customs, and begin to understand. 123 lie.S. Sends Zoskimi from fapan Every day, outside is covered with snow here. The white snow is very pretty. We don’t have much snow in my town, because it is located in southern Japan. This is my first ex- perience to see a lot of snow. I’m a member of J.I.C.E. (Japan International Cultural Ex- change) 1975,1 took the 2 tests and I’m here now. When I was in Japan, 1 went to an all girls catholic school, so the first time I came here, I was confused and surprised. The corridors were crowded with many students, and be- tween each class, we had to move. This is different from my school. The reason I came here was because America was a longed- for place, and I wanted to learn the foreign language. I just can’t believe I’m finally in the U.S.A. and this is not a dream. All the people, and my american family are so sweet to me. After I go back to Japan, I’ll always remember this year. All the people have given me a lot of memories. All these memories I will bring home with my baggage. Thank you very much. '■rppiipim 124 floak Visits from Okayama, {Japan Hi, I came here to the United States as a Rotary Exchange student from Japan. It was a great experience to spend a year in a foreign country. I met a lot of people who were so kind to help me to learn about the U.S. and to study the language. 1 was in the marching band, which was very exciting to me, and also the choir. I don’t go to church in Japan because I’m a Buddhist. I found out that the atmosphere in this school was com- pletely different from my school in Okayama. Here, boys and girls are much closer to each other than those in my country. There, school is a very strict place. I have a wish to be an English teacher in Japan. I’ve learned a lot and have enjoyed my stay. I want to say “Arigato” to the Zinsmeisters and the Jenkins’ and to everyone else. 125 This year Key Club has become very active. Maseball “76” This year’s team was one of the league’s most dedicated teams. Although sporting many underclassmen, Coach Engels’ squad posted a very commendable 5—14 record. This year the Bee’s were led by Senior Mike Engels who was 1st team all county and by Junior Mark Barlow who was voted Honorable Mention. Barlow was one of the league’s toughest pitchers. The team was led by co-captains Greg Ramin and Jeff O’Hara, who were 1st team and 2nd team all-county respectively. Other team mem- bers who made all-county were Jim Spence, 1st team and John Edwards 2nd team. It was a team effort however that gave the Bee’s a 7-2-2 league record good for a 2nd place fin- ish, the best ever for a B’ville soccer team. Eight team records were either tied or broken, an example of how well-skilled this team was. The team had much respect from opposing players and coaches and was said to have been one of the most well disciplined and sportsmanlike teams in the past few years. The seniors, Dale Wolfe, Mark Barlow, Jeff O’Hara, Jim Spence, Greg Ramin, and Don Swete can be proud of their output and for setting such high standards for all upcoming B’ville soccer teams and that will take much hard work and practice to overcome. Many capable juniors will give coach Vredenburg a good nucleus to challenge this year’s showing. Soccer “76” L to R-lst Row: H. Alexander, K. Margeson, M. CutUlo, D. Hirsh, T. Fitzpatrick, C.
