EDUCATION SHGULD oPE
DOORS p Q
. PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE
Your three years of studies have opened to each of you the door to many new areas
of interest. My hope is that you now look forward eagerly to the challenging task of
opening doors in higher education or in the field of the working world.
A door which should be opened to every student is the one bearing the sign "Pro-
mise of America. " The right to work and to play, the right to be himself, and to
become whatever his personaliw, talents, and vision can make him -- this is the pro-
mise of America.
I challenge you to always seek excellence in your education. You must look for
excellence not in abstract intellectual activity, the fine arts, craftsmanship, and
technical work, but also in human relations. The American promise is that excelf-
lence shall be recognized in many kinds of achievement but that apart from this
every man is judged upon the excellence of his character.
This is but the first challenge to you. There will be many others to follow. Meet
them with determination and a burning desire to achieve and new doors will continue
to open before you. It is my hope that you will always rise to the challenge of new
ideas and will always find joy and satisfaction in opening these doors.
