THE TWO POEMS ON THE OPPOSITE PAGE ARE MESSAGES SENT WHILE THE ROAN WAS DE- PLOYED. THE FIRST ONE WAS SENT BY THE SHIP TO THE REST OF THE SQUADRON ON THE DAY THEY WERE LEAVING THE MED. FOR THE STATES. THE SECOND WAS SENT BY THE SQUADRON COMMANDER WHEN WE WERE RELIEVED AND STARTED OUR TRIP HOME. THEY ARE INCLUDED IN THIS BOOK IN THE HOPES THAT THE CREW, WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE BOOK, MAY READ THESE BITS OF HUMOR AND PERHAPS CHUCKLE A LITTLE. FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMIL- IAR WITH THE BACKGROUND OF THE MESSAGES, WE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION. ON THE SIDE OF EACH SHIP IN THE SQUADRON IS A SEAL, SHOWING A SHIELD WITH THE NUMBER TEN IN THE CENTER AND A LARGE LIGHTNING BOLT PASSING THROUGH IT. THE ROAN WAS DUBBED AS THE LIGHTNING BOLT OF DESRON 'ILIQAS A RESULT OF THESE MESSAGES AND WE THINK THEY SHOW THAT, ALTHOUGH WE WERE DISAPPOINTED AT BEING EXTENDED., WE STILL WERE ABLE TO LAUGH A LITTLE AND MAINTAIN OUR GOOD MORALE.
