W, 675 PFC. CHARLES HOWARD ROAN, USMCR Private Roan was born in Claude, Texas, August 16, 1923. He attended school in Claude and was graduated from high school in 1939. On December 12, 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Private Roan took his basic train- ing at San Diego and had further training at Camp Elliott until July 1943 when he was transferred to duty in the held. Private Roan was killed in action on September 18, 1944, while serving with the Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, First Marine Division on Pele- liu Islands, Palau Group. For his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, he was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously.
