SEVENTH GRADE Like any other power station, Gaskill must have some type of intake so that it may function. In this case Gaskill's type of intake is junior appren- tices, namely the seventh grades. On September 6, 1961, 414 apprentices signed up for work in Gaskil1's power house of knowledge. They composed 12 of the school's roll calls. The first few weeks were problem ones for these midget apprentices. The tall tenth grade master workmen tripped over them. They couldn't find their way to work through the halls. Also, they had trouble remembering room numbers, foremen's Cteachers' namesl, locker numbers, and combina- tions. Sometimes they brought the wrong tools to work by bringing the wrong books to class. Eventually, however, the junior apprentices started learning their trade and succeeded quite well. For entertainment there was the Halloween Party. All the apprentices wondered what to wear. As a result, many clever costumes were worn. Winners were the following: James Evert Ernest McDougald Beverly Hager Glen Mort Karen Leone Bill Thompson Next came the seventh and eighth grade spelling bee. Contestants who succeeded in surviving the first contest were the following: Barbara Capizzi Jennifer McCoy Francine Dudrick Richard Moses Brenda Maracle Jacqueline' Siudut Edward Matthews Joanne Vorel Today Gaski1l's apprentices are studying at the power station to go from apprentices to journeymen and then to master workmen. Finally, they will prove in the world that from knowledge and then power comes pro- gress, progress, progress. Emilia DeSimone Assistant Editor 46
