EIGHTH GRADE HISTORY Two years ago, quite a few of us tiny particles were swept into Gaskil1's huge halls. You should have seen us trying to crawl through those tunnels. Even though this caused us much trouble. we managed to get to class on time. In October of 1960, we had our annual Halloween Party. A tall man Walked on the stage, too tall to be human. Of course, there were two people in the costume. Danny and Gilbert Maines. They won the first prize. In the seventh grade science contest, the winner was Mark Lazeration who entered a collection of old watches. In January 1961, we had our annual Spelling Bee. Candy Frerk won in this contest. On January 20, 1961 a talent show was sponsored by the Student Council. The seventh graders put on a skit called OLD SCHOOL DAYS. Later the 7th graders participated in a variety show entitled SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY. Pupils who took part in the song and dance of ME AND MY SHADOW were: Gloria Sweney, Cyndy Carver, Jeanette DeBacco. Kathy Ruff, and Charlann Levy. There were a number of boys that were on the basketball, swimming, and track teams, while the girls participated in volleyball and basketball. As we entered our second year in Gaskill, we no longer were caught in the flow of the onrushing students. Eighth grade students began to show their individual talents. In the fall 34 eighth graders were inducted into the Honor Society at a school assembly and individual awards were presented to Wayne Gladish and Sharon Butera for their outstanding averages. In spring at the Planta- tion, more of our class were taken into the Honor Society. In the annual spelling bee three of the four finalists were from the eighth grade. These included the winner Judy Baumgartner. Many of us submitted entries in the schoo1's science fair. Eighth grade award was given to Alan Rennie for his collection of butterflies and the all- school award to Edward Cieslik for his model of a power system. We also took an important part in the musical ON THE RANGE and the Spring Concert. As this year draws to a close, we look forward to the comingpyear in which we will start high school subjects and our last year at Gaskill. LYDIA COLOSI JIM OLENICZAK 39
