TEN TH GRADE HISTORY This year marks the finish of the New York State Power Project as well as four enjoyable years at Gaskill Junior High School by the tenth grade class of 1962. September 1958 was an exciting month for the new 7th graders, who began to concentrate eagerly on great problems presented to them by many teachers. Our foremost purpose was to get all we could from Junior High School. It started out well for Judy Mamon, David Weaver, Jerry Molden- hauer, and Vicky Tomasine, who were winners of the best costumes at the Halloween Party. In December the 7th grade swimmers had a happy victory over North. The 8th grade was another happy year for the class. The awards for the highest average for the year before went to Thomas Weisflog and Brad Smith. The winners of the spelling bee were Peggy McKnight and Jackie Finley. In the Science Contest the honors went to Walter Watson, Tom Carlson and John Pileggi. For the first time the eighth grade put on their own Variety Show which was a huge success with songs, skits, and panto- mines. Louise Grande and Christine Wilk were the announcers and Linda Martino, Dennis Perez, Dave Donato, and Jeff Plumer all performed in more than one act of the show, with Mr. Stewart as director. The 9th grade was still another successful year. Thirty-one 9th graders were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. The highest average honors went to Brad Smith and Joe Critelli. Our champion football team was cheered on by the very capable cheerleaders: Janice Civiletto, Mary Lou Zarosl, Louise Grande, and Mary Ellen Ambrosio. After an exciting cam- paign John Zacher and Janice Civiletto were elected President and Vice- President of the Student Council having defeated Dennis Perez and Theresa Urbaniak. Ninth grade officers elected that year were Theresa Urbaniak, Dennis Perez and Gary Hayes. In our fourth and final year at Gaskill all of us were saddened but happy for the few who went to High School for their 10th year. The Honor Society elected their new president, Theresa Urbaniakg vice-president, Linda Martino, and secretary-treasurer, Robert Kaczynski. Christmas came and with it came the annual Christmas program.4Many 10th graders sang in it, and Gary Hayes, as Santa Claus, directed the sing- ing of Christmas carols. The musical comedy On the Range was put on in March with many of us participating, among whom were Linda Martino, Barry McRae, and Peggy McKnight, with Miss Haman as director. Our hearts are filled with joy and sadness at the thought of leaving Gaskill, but we know that we will never forget our Alma Mater. Historians Nancy Abbott and Sam Rangatore 23
