SEVENTH GRADE There were over 400 -seventh graders sitting in the auditorium of Gaskill on the morning of September 6, 1960. Soon there was a deep voice over the speaker and everyone was silen-t, for it was Mr. Abbott, who said, When your name is called, go out in the hall and stand with the teacher assigned. As the principal started to call the names, you could hear the mumble of voices rising in excitement. There were twelve roll calls, and most friends were -separated until after school. After a few days, we seventh graders really had something to talk about. Each of us ha-d to find o-ur own way because we did not know most of the others in our -classes, but most of u-s got along quite well. Some of us had trouble remembering room numbers and the names of teachers. Roll call troubles should be a subheading in this -story because there were so many problems-for instance, locks. The next big thing was the Hallowe'en party at school. One would go up to the other and say, What are you goin g to be, Dracula or a clown? It was a successful party with many different types of costumes, but one outstanding one was two brothers, Danny and Gilbert Maines, one on top of the other as a tall man. They won first prize. Now there i-s one more thing that some of the seventh gra-ders will participate in, and that is the Variety Show. I know this will be a big suc- cess too. JOHN MACKENN A . ',t , sg ,f' E Y 1 lg!
