EIGHTH GRADE As we approa-ched Ga-skill in September of 1959, w e anticipated many eventful years ahead of us. Walking up to the closed doors of Gas- kill, we realized -that in the com-ing years we would have to open and pass through many doors. We found, as we entered, a new and more exciting world. Still quite perplexed, in late October we came to a part-ly-opened door. As we peeked through, we saw a gay Hallowe'en party. For their original and colorful costumes, Kathy Kaczynski, Joe Martino, Sam Mus- sari, and Tony Riccuto received prizes. Weeks later our best seventh grade spellers competed in the seventh and eighth grade spelling bee. However, we couldn't mat-ch the skill of the eighth graders. Many of us who had seen previous Variety Shows were delighted to learn that the next door brought that entertaining event. We traveled through rn a n y doors until finally in June we came to the last one of the year. This door brought the obstacle of exams., In 1960 we came to take part in our second year at Gaskill. For their outstanding averages, Margaret Dunlap and Joanne Lepiano re ceiv ed scholarship awards. The Student Council sponsored a Toy Dance. The toys collected as admission were donated to needy children. Mrs. Twardoski dir- ected the eighth grade skit in the Talent Show, another activity sponsored by the Student Council. The main characters were Tom Swalwell, Barbara Leonard, and M-arge Gugino. The next doo r brought the Valentine Party, which con-sisted of refreshments, a movie, and dancing. Again the Variety Show aroused the interest of m-any in our grade. As we look back, we see that we h-ave left many d oo r -s ajar, but ahead of us are more closed doors.
