CLASS OF '61 Joseph Genovese President Roger Fabin Judith Soluri Vice-President 59G 0fU Y'T 5 'er CLASS HISTORY High in a mysterious room of a musty castle, the wise magician Merlin and his assistants, Joyce Kowalski and Richard Torcasio, former Gaskill students, are found reminiscing through a dust- laden history book entitled Gaskill Graduates of 1961 . Merlin assumes the reading responsibilities and his voice echoes throughout the chamber as he begins with the year 1957. Many eager seventh graders invade Gaskill with exuberant enthusiasm. October provides them with a thrilling Hallowe'en party in which many homerooms present short skits. The winners are: Gretchen Mess, Mary Tucker, Richard, Townsend and Reta White. This year finds many of us extremely happy at the thought of having our names placed on the Honor Roll. Merlin's harmonious voice continues: Candy Cain wins the championship in Gaskill's annual spelling bee. A select few have the opportunity to join Gaskill's newly-formed science club. John Zankowski and Matt Zarosl hold the position of co-captains of Gaskill's eighth grade all-star basket- ball team. The ninth grade football team, cheered on by Kathy Conti, Janet Militello, Roslyn Murgia and Marilyn Leone, our very able cheerleaders, captures the city championship, Junior High Division, with Matt Zarosl as team captain. In swimming competition Gary Martin sets a new record for the 20 yard butterfly stroke. In May John Zankowski and Charlene DiLeonardo are elected president and vice-president of the student council. Scholarship awards are presented to Sandra Tantillo, Gretchen Mess and John Zankowski. Frank Biehl wins the overall school first prize in Gaskill's science con- test. Merlin now states the 1960-1961 school year has begun. Members of the Gaskill Junior Hon- or Society elect Joseph Genovese their new president, Elizabeth Halkowicz, vice-president, and Carol Maturani, secretary-treasurer. We, the Class of 1961, express sentiments of joy and reluctance at the thought of leaving our Alma Mater. We have tried to achieve our goals and will continue to strive onward. Gaskill will al- ways bring to mind memories of days of education and enjoyment. Merlin slowly closes the book and carefully places it on a high shelf where it will someday be found by others who will note the history of the Gaskill Graduates of 1961 . Historians: Elizabeth Halkowicz, Sandra Tantillo, Joseph Genovese
