High school is a time for many
things, the most important being
an education, and while it is true
that high school is not manda-
tory in Arizona, CHS students
found learning a necessary part
lt was the trend towards basic
classes - math, reading and writ-
ing - that contributed to the
growth. Students found that try-
ing to build on a weak founda-
tion was not as beneficial as
learning the fundamentals of
English and math in a deliberate
manner. Teachers conformed
immediately to this re-birth of
the basics, and students seem
to be no worse for the wear.
A wearing down of the non-
essential and a building up of
the required gave students a
wellrounded background in all
subjects. Through review and
re-evaluation, students were
able to add to their knowledge,
and some became not simply
Ngood students", but scholars.
Education is a continuing, life-
long process, but high school is
the place to be taken advan-
tage of for the basics.
