Being on the yearbook staff was an interesting experience. I never knew so much work went into the making of a book. Setting up appointments for teachers, faculty, and extracurricular activities so they can have their pic- tures taken wasri't easy. After we'd fi- nally track them down something unex- pected would happen, the film would be lost, or over exposed or under exposed, you name it, it happened. Taking pictures at random was fun. You find out everyone wants to be in the yearbook. After all or most pictures are taken, layouts are done, information of all kinds is gathered, we are still not done. Advertisement is an important part of our yearbook. This is a very time consuming part. Not only do we collect ads realizing there are other schools in the same places doing exactly what we are doing but, we find that competition of the businesses are the same. If Channel Is- lands High School students don't give the community their business they won't give us theirs. As soon as we col- lect ads, we do some of the art work and we do our best to satisfy everyone. Working on a yearbook that is as im- portant as this one, makes me feel real proud and I gave it my strict attention. I know this book will be very important and memorable. Just like the graduat- ing class of 't1986l Sals Rodriguez When some people think of yearbook class, they think of typewriters busily tapping, and frantic photographers rushing to every school funstion. This idea is somewhat exaggerated, however, there is a lot of preparation that goes in to creating and organizing a yearbook, Photographs are probably the most important part of any yearbook, for they, in a sense, 'tcapture that special mo- ment. Because of this, a lot of times is spent in taking pictures and choosing the ones that best exemplify our school's attitudes and spirit. Another vital area in yearbook organization is that of copy edit- ing. Without articles written to praise our fine athletes, award- winning squads, and reflect on past school events, the yearbook would he nothing more than a photo album. Of course there are also several other areas crucial to the preparation of the yearbook such as soliciting ads in order to help defray the cost to the stu- dent. creating artwork, and the more tedious tasks of typing and proofreading. Perhaps with this knowledge, one can understand all of the hard work and determi- nation in creating our annual Raiders Log. Susan Prevette 240 EDITORS My main job in yearbook was Advertising Editor. I was in charge of going out to a lot of busi- nesses and collecting advertise' ments for the yearbook. At first it was alittle discourag- ing because nobody wants to buy any ads. I wanted to give up the first day, but I knew that I couldn't. It was my job. I can still remember that first ad we sold, it was to Household Bank. After that everything went smoothly. People still say Non but I got use to it, In 3 days we got one whole page sold. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it was for us. Collecting ads is not all we have to do. We than have to do layouts and artwork for most of them. It's a lot of time and hard work but it will be worth it when I see the ads I got and the artwork I drew in the back of the yearbook. Liz Corona - .. it - .ffiism my-.. g 4--as-7--as . 2- eess M rrrrw i The main job of an art edi- tor is to see that the fine art in a yearbook is actually fine art. Being an art editor isift easy. Iris pretty hard to select art that almost everyone likes. Here are some of the things an art editor does, he selects art, reviews art from students, he adds creative- ness to the yearbook, etc. Be- ing an art editor is actually fun. Lee Nadonga The copy editor was ajob where information would be gathered and typed. Then articles were written and proofread. We would go over the typed material and see if there were any mistakes, if there were, it would be retyped. There are so many responsibil- ities that a copy editor does. Also there are certain deadlines that we met where things have to be turned in right away. Linda Vasquez Taking pictures for the year- book isn't as easy and fun as most people think. First you have to schedule the place, and date of the picture. That doesn't sound so difficult but at times people make last minute changes and that means reschedueling them for an- other day. Sometimes it's raining on their picture day or it's windy or cloudy and they still expect you to take great pictures. Also trying to get some good candid shots is a hard task because so many people are camera-shy. Once they spot you with a camera they stop acting normal. Either they hide or they throw on a big smile and of course that can get boring. But, we worked hard and we hope the pic- tures are enjoyable for you. Maria Ramirez
