Aff J l .1 .A hi . 1' A Vg.. 9- Y:- Driver Education was open to all students on the Freshman level. The course was required for graduation. Students learned about laws that relate to driving. They also learned about the proper maintenance and care of the Auto. Special time was given to study of Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco towards the end of the course. All of the Driver Education teachers really enjoyed teaching their classes. Stan Beal taught Driver Education, he was a Senior Class Advisor and announcer for football and basketball. lerry White taught U. S. History, Drivers Education and Consumer Education. Marvin Kilgore taught English 9, U. S. History, and Drivers Education. Chuck Cordes taught U. S. History and Drivers Education. He also helped coach the l.V. Football Team.

The Channel Islands Special Education program provided extra help for those students who needed extra support. The program was strengthened by the contribution of able students from the school population who served as teacher aides. Another area of pride for the Special Education Department was the work experience program which provided jobs in the community for the students in their junior and senior years. The learning gained on the job combined with the classroom teachings of Mr. Drescher, Mr. Luna and Mr. Gershon comprised the Channel Islands Special Education program. joel Gershon CDepartment Chairpersonl, taught English EH and Government St. He also was head Varsity Football Coach. Bob Drescher taught at Hueneme High School every morning, then came to Channel Islands to teach English EH, Culture St. EH. He also coached cross country and boys track.
