She also was involved in Curriculum Committee, and Minimun Essentials. Charles K. Gose taught Psychology, Geography, American Political Systems and was a member of the Scholarship Committee. Hank Ornalez taught Geography, Mexican-American Studies and Drivers Education. He also coached the Soccer team. Mary Taylor taught American Political Systems, Geography and Consumer Education. Rafael Gonzales taught Algebra and History 11B. He also coached the Freshman Football team. Mike Leonard taught U.S. History 3 and U.S. History 11. Bill O'Connor taught Sociology, Career Guidence and U.S. History. He assisted the Varsity Basketball team and also coached the junior Varsity Basketball team.

Social Science, one of the largest departments at Channel Islands. It was chaired by Ms. Claire Wyers and taught by a group of dedicated teachers who have a wide rang of backgrounds, education and experiences. Social Science deals primarily with human beings and their behavior and attitudes. The goal of the department was to help the individual understand himself and others and, thus, be better prepared to deal with the everyday problems of living. :HN J.. The Channel Islands Special Education program provided extra help for those students who needed extra support. The program was strengthened by the contribution of able students from the school population who served as teacher aides. Another area of pride for the Special Education Department was the work experience program which provided jobs in the community for the students in their junior and senior years. The learning gained on the job combined with the classroom teachings of Mr. Drescher, Mr. Luna and Mr. Gershon comprised the Channel Islands Special Education program. joel Gershon CDepartment Chairpersonl, taught English EH and Government St. He also was head Varsity Football Coach. Bob Drescher taught at Hueneme High School every morning, then came to Channel Islands to teach English EH, Culture St. EH. He also coached cross country and boys track.
