Social Science, one of the largest departments at Channel Islands. It was chaired by Ms. Claire Wyers and taught by a group of dedicated teachers who have a wide rang of backgrounds, education and experiences. Social Science deals primarily with human beings and their behavior and attitudes. The goal of the department was to help the individual understand himself and others and, thus, be better prepared to deal with the everyday problems of living. :HN J.. Wayne Branstetter taught wrestling, tumbling, weight training, jogging, basketball, volleyball, speedball, football and was the Head Wrestling Coach. Don Cardinal taught softball, volleyball, basketball, Advanced football, soccer, speedball, Advanced basketball and was the Varsity Baseball Coach. Royal Copeland taught weight training, jogging, Advanced badminton, paddle tennis and football. Mary Dabbs taught bicycling, Advanced volleyball, Adaptive P.E., yoga and jogging. Frank Gankas taught bicycling, Outdoor Recreational Games and football. Marlene C-illett taught softball, basketball, Indoor Recreational Games, modern dance, tennis and was the Advisor for the Tall Flags. Rick Knoles taught handball, soccer, speedball, football, volleyball, basketball and was the Head Track Coach. Diane Luedtke taught tennis, archery, volleyball, softball and was the Girls Softball Coach. Virginia Wooten taught golf, archery, folk dance, tennis, softball and was the Advisor for the Drill Team. She also was involved in Curriculum Committee, and Minimun Essentials. Charles K. Gose taught Psychology, Geography, American Political Systems and was a member of the Scholarship Committee. Hank Ornalez taught Geography, Mexican-American Studies and Drivers Education. He also coached the Soccer team. Mary Taylor taught American Political Systems, Geography and Consumer Education. Rafael Gonzales taught Algebra and History 11B. He also coached the Freshman Football team. Mike Leonard taught U.S. History 3 and U.S. History 11. Bill O'Connor taught Sociology, Career Guidence and U.S. History. He assisted the Varsity Basketball team and also coached the junior Varsity Basketball team.
