They learned the skills to obtain jobs in offices as receptionist secretaries, clerical workers, bookkeepers, recordkeepers, sales and marketing positions and office machines operators. The students enjoyed the classes because the business department really taught something that was useful.

The English De- partment was dedicated to improving the commu- nication skills of the stu- dents. Each student was required to take a two year course in the basic, standard, preparatory, or honors program. At the end of the two years, stu- dents could continue to take year courses or select some of the many elective classes open to them at the junior and senior level. Joanne Black, who was the department chair- person, taught English 9B, English 1, and Mythology. Phillip Bryant taught Language of the Cinema, English 4, and English 4H, and he also worked with the Advanced Place- ment Program. Dave Buss, a Reading Researcher, was also the golf coach this year. Carol Campbell, an advi- sor for the Future Teach- ers of America Club, taught English 2 and Eng- lish 10B. Eiko Cruichshank, who taught English 12, English 2, and Modern Litature was active with the For- eign Exchange Club. Harold Ecklund taught English 9, and English 11. Carolyn Hilburn, the Bilingual Program Assist- ant, taught English 10B and is a Bilingual Re- searcher. Sid Hill kept busy with Future Teachers of America and freshmen baseball coaching, as well as teaching English 9, English 3, and English 3H.
