Most of the classes relied on lab work which ranged from measuring the size of a molecule as freshmen to dissecting sharks as seniors. Some classes studied the world in general such as Everyday Science, while others study specific disciplines such as Biology, Physiology, Chemistry and Physics. This year Oceanography was offered for the first time. Below is a helpful guide to the sciences: If it's green and wiggles, it's Biology lf it stinks it's Chemistry If it doesn't work, it's Physics If it's gory it's Physiology.

The Agricultural Department at C.l. was a one teacher department that offered courses from Landscape Design to BasicfHorticulture. One of the biggest projects of this department was to prepare and enter group and individual exhibits at the Ventura County Fair. Most students of the Agricultural Department were members of the Future Farmers of America Organization. This organization participated in seminars, contests, and conferences in addition to activities and fund raising projects at school. GF .33- 5 . . The Art Department gave students a chance to explore art styles and techniques by offering a wide selection of art classes. Offered were: Art Start, a general survey class for beginning artists, Drawing, Life Drawing, Print Making, Color and Design, Graphic Design, Painting, Filmmaking, Photography, and Ad- vanced Photography. The students were asked to express the knowledge and skills gained from this experience by creating original art works. Empha- sis was also placed on craftsmanship, indivi- duality and experimenta- tion. Department members were Ms. Rubin,who was known as the Michelan- gelo of the sign painters, taught Printmaking, Drawing, and Color and Design. She also advised a new club on campus this year, the Football Club. Mr. Bowman who stayed in shaped by run- ning back and forth from the Art and Physical Edu- cation Departments, taught Art Start, Drawing, and Filmmaking. He was a new teacher this year at Channel Islands but it was his second year as the coach for the Soph Frosh Basketball Team. Mr. Burrows, who spent part of the year recover- ingfrom a trip to Europe, ran the department, advised the Yearbook Staff and taught Photog- raphy, Life Drawing and Graphic Design.
