Our faculty and stu- dents are working closely to- gether, striving for the reputa- tion of being the best. The success enjoyed by our musical groups, athletic teams, DECA Club, drill team, FFA, student activities, etc. has given the school a feeling of pride and much to cheer about! The enviable reputation of our school is, in no small part, due to the dedicated efforts of the graduating seniors, who will shortly be honored in com- mencement exercises. To the graduating Class of '78 - it is hoped that your experiences here have been rewarding, because your accomplish- ments have been 'a source of pride to the community, to your family, and to the staff at Channel Islands High School. Under His tutelage, Channel islands has emerged as a truely outstanding school in every respect, and is considered as the top school in this area. Mr. Benefield comes to his position well qualified, having served as a Vice-Principal, Attendance Officer, classroom teacher and a championship track coach. He is sincere and fair in his dealings with the students, teachers and mem- bers of the communtiy. He has great pride in the students and the entire school. The 1977-78 school year began as a year filled with great expectations. Our athletic teams were expected to win championshipsg our student leaders were expected to influence the course of our school and our districtp our school spirit was expected to set an example for others to followp our enrollment was expected to grow and make us the largest school in the districtp and our overcrowded classrooms were expected to hold just one more year until the new classroom wing could be completed for occupancy. All in all, Channel Islands High School was expected to have a great year in nearly all areas of involvement and the counselors shared those expectations and tried to play a part in their accomplishments.
