Vunity L5toty The Chandler Panthers, consisting of all lettermen except for Gill and Edison, started the year by winning their first three games without a loss and into the Thanks- giving Holidays undefeated. The Panthers got even with the Otwell Millers who beat the tar out of them last year. They came from behind in the last minutes to beat Haubstadt which is a new team they picked up this year, and they squashed Spurgeon for the third year straight. After the holidays had rolled past, the Panthers lost to Holy Name and a good Mater Dei team. These two teams were a good match for the Chandler boys and they hit quite better than the Panthers, so Chandler came out on the little end of the horn. Then the Panthers came back with fire in their eyes to stop the Trojans from Troy and melt the Posies from Poseyville. It was getting close to the Christmas Holidays then and the Holiday Tourney was coming up while Chandler, thus far, had a 5 and 2 record. The drawings for the tourney was held about a week before spending the holi- days eating turkey, dumplings, and all the goodys that go with it. Finally another ball game rolled arpund and it was Jan. 6 with Tennyson on the roster. The Chand- ler five pulled it through the fire without much trouble, although a small Elber- feld team upset the over confident team. Panthers, 65 to 52 which broke Coach Bob Chapman's heart because Elberfeld's coach is his old classmate. Still down on the game before, the Panthers let a Henderson County team beat them for the second year straight, while bouncing back and whipping the next 4 teams on the schedule without much trouble at all. First was Mackey which pleased Mr. Null very much, because he is originally from there. Then the old calendar had moved to Jan. 21 with Newburg on the roster who is our bitterest rival . We had beaten them once so the Panthers didn't see why they should let them come out on top, so Newburg went down defeated once more to the angry Panthers. That night there was a record breaking crowd in the Chandler gym. After beating Newburgh, the next two games came easy from Chrisney and Millersburgh. On Feb. 4, Art Taylor brought his team up from Evansville who was a little on the dark side to plaster the Panthers 86 to 53. Then the tall Dutchmen from Holland handed the Panthers their 7th defeat of the year by a margin of 27 points—73 to 46. After taking their worst defeats, the Panthers traveled to Francisco's cracker-box to win a close one by only 4 points—67 to 63, comments: (the officials were rotten). Then sectional time was just around the corner and our last game of the year had come up with Lynnville. The Undies from up north pulled a sneaky to win 68 to 64 which ended the 1955-56 season with a 12 and 8 record counting the holiday tourney. 41
