Six years ago when lVlr. Phares came to Chandler High the school did not have a National Forensics League. In 1972, one year after his arrival, lVlr. Phares and fifteen students founded and received a chapter for the NFL organization at CHS. Since then his sguad has qualified at least one debate team to state every year. IVIr. Phares was named Coach of the Year in 1974. One of the contributing factors to this honor has been the overall record for the squad. This year is a good example. His debate teams have finished their season with a 122-41 win-loss record . His coaching ability has also been reflected through his Individual Eventers. This year's speakers have captured 4 firsts, 6 seconds, and 6 third place awards. ln addition the speakers have totaled 40 times into semi-final and one speaker qualified for state competition . With a young debate team and new Individual Eventers, Phares' team looks even more promising for next year. PHARES STARTED N.F.L. AT CHANDLER FIVE YEARS AGO Llll fllllltl l ll N S, HOLLINGSHEAD ENDS 13TH YEAR The 1976-1977 school year has been a busy one for choral instructor John Hollings- head . He finished his thirteenth year here in June. IVIr. Hollingshead handles all choral music at Chandler High School. This job was lessened somewhat this year when the fresh- men stayed in the junior high schools and the need for a Nlixed Chorus was eliminated. But there was plenty left to do. Not only did lVlr. Hollingshead coach his lVladrigals into earning the 13th consecutive Superior rating at the Solo and Ensemble Festival, he taught Concert Choir and Advanced Girl's Chorus as well. The groups earned money for a spring tour to Northern Arizona by selling candy and game refreshments, having bake sales, car washes, and a January Giant Garage Sale. Teachers 95

BOSSE HEADS DEPARTMENT After the retirement of lVlr. Manuel Diaz last year, IVlr. Charles Bossee was chosen to be the new head of the CHS IVIath Department. lVlr. Bosse, who teaches Geometry and Inter- mediate IVIath, has taught at Chandler High for sixteen years . His new duties include sche- duling, aiding in the formation of policy, supervising of teachers, and serving as a go- between for the teachers in his department and the administration . lVIr. Bosse enjoys his position, saying that CHS students are the greatest . We have the most desirable student body possible I enjoy working with these people. He has been similarly impressed with the administra- tion, saying of them, They are a hardworking team who are interested in making CHS the best. IVlr. Bosse Pictured Below, is active in the Chandler Elk's Club and is presently on the Board of Trustees . 94 Teachers WELCH TOURS EUROPE WITH CHS STUDENTS IVIr. 96-In T IN THEIR OWN NEW ADMINISTRATORS CONLEY, TEEGERSTROM, AND CACCAMO EXPLAIN THEIR VIEWS AND POLICIES AT CHS Chandler High School underwent a complete changeover in administration early this August. Replacing Principal John Semanek, Assistant Principals Harry Bowers and Joe Terrell were Dr. Howard Conley, Robert Caccamo, and William Teegerstrom. Dr. Conley, father of four, has a long administrative history, be- ginning with his post in New lVIexico. After serving as an assistant principal of Shadow Mountain High School, he came to CHS. lVlr. Caccamo, perhaps the most ivsible of the three because of his in- volvement in student activi- ties, is also married and has two children. ln recent years he has been an administrator on Long lsland, New York. IVIr. Teegerstrom, father of five sons, came to Chandler after a teachingfcoaching position in Kansas and serv- ing as an administrator in Wyoming. The past two years he has spent as a Shadow lVIountain High As- sistant Principal. Early in February the new adminis- trators discussed themselves and their positions at Chandler High with El Lobo editors . A totally positive air has engulfed CHS during the 1976-1977 year. It is often attributed to the new staff. Asked if their admin- istration has any ovenfvhelm- ing philosophy, Dr. Conley said, I think we all want to treat kids the way we want our own kids to be treated . Conley pointed out that ad- ministration is a team effort, we all perform one service. As principal, Dr. Con- ley's first responsibility is the school as awhole and all its happenings. In order to cover all bases, he must delegate responsibility to assistant principals and de- partment heads . The area given to IVlr. Caccamo in- cludes supervision ofthe bookstore, scheduling and overseeing of all student and teacher activities, and all of the accompanying paperwork and details . Said Caccamo, l make sure everything runs right. The third member of h , -, . 1.,....,..5..J..-'sw the team, iVIr. Teegerstrom, is in charge of all attendance and disciplinary matters. He also works with lVIr. Caccamo on athletics . Each of the administra- tors feel that the 1976- 1977 school year has gone extremely well . It's been fantastic! Dr. Conley said . We like the kids' manners, behavior, openness-every- thing. IVlr. Caccamo noted how friendly Chandler students are, and added that they similarly impress people out- side the school. Our kids are great! he said. We're really proud of them. The Fiesta Bowl was a good ex- ample . Each of the three were amazed by OCH and com-
