WRESTLERS WIN 8-2 The CHS Varsity Wrestling sguad was by far one of the most successful athletic teams on campus . Under the experienced coaching ability of Coach John Carlson, it finished the season with a notable 8-2 win, loss record. In achieving their accom- plishments the wrestlers dis- played good mental attitude, dedication, and many hours of hard work. Outstanding wrestlers of the year were Frankie Brown, James Ricks, and Sisto Rosales. James Ricks took second place for his class in the Mesa Invitational and Frankie Brown placed second in the Chaparral Invitational, fourth in the Mesa Tournament, and first in Divisionals. Senior heavyweight S isto Rosales probably has one of the most distinguished lists of wres- tling credits in the State of Ari- zona. He achieved a season rec- ord of16-4, with 13 pins, and a remarkable 90-15-1 career record with a career total of 63 pins . Last year he wrestled the Japanese All-States twice and won both matches . He was the 1976 AAA Central Division Champion and three time State Champion in the High School State Championship, Junior Olympic Freestyle, and Junior Olympic Greco-Roman tourna- ments . He also won the Tourna- ment of Champions which included the best heavyweights in all four divisions . Sisto's most honored accomplishment was when he placed first in the Japanese qualifying tournament. He trav- eled on the Cultural Exchange Team to Japan where he went un- defeated with a 10-0 record to win two gold medals . He was also chosen by the Booster Club as the Outstanding Winter Ath- lete and Athlete of the Year and was voted Chandler's most valu- able wrestler. Although Sisto got off to a late start this year because of a knee injury acquired during foot- ball, he still managed to live up to his image as a successful and victorious com etitor He was the p . AAA Central Division Champ and took third place in the AAA State High School Championships. He was also named one of the Top 13 wrestlers in the State by Arizona Prep Magazine and was again picked as the Chandler High most valuable wrestler. The Chandler Junior Varsity Basketball team started off the season slowly by losing five of their first eight games . They started putting things together the second part of the season and won nine out of the next eleven games . Two of those victories were over a highly talented Junior Varsity team from Westwood that was un- defeated until they played Chandler. Some ofthe players who had outstanding statistics were: Brian Ragsdale with 202 pts., 120 rebounds, and shot 5570 from the field, IVlark Truxal with 166 ' pts., 65 rebounds, and 85 as- sists, and 45 steals, Bob Nlartinez with 111 pts., 89 re- bounds, and shot 7771. from the free throw line, Doug Petersen with 73 pts., 78 rebounds, and shot 6470 from the free throw line, Joe Pistrui with 90 pts., 75 rebounds, and 34 assists.
