CHANDLER HIGH STUDENTS RECEIVE NUMEROUS HONORS FOR EXCELLENCE ACHIEVED Sisto Rosales toured Japan this summer. He recorded a 10-0 win record standing plus he won two gold medals for his impressive efforts . lVlike Thiem has been the re- ceiver of an Honorable lVlen- tion Award at the Arizona State Fair Student Art Fair. James Ricks placed second in a wrestling match at the Mesa Inivtational in the 140 lb . division . Tammy Knight received sev- eral awards for art work at the Arizona State Fair Stu- dent Art Show, including a Blue Ribbon and an Excep- tional Merit Award . The debate team of Kim lVlehren and Terry Savarino were the winners of a second place award at the ASU Forensic Tournament. Dana Sorenson was pre- sented a First Place Premi- um Award for a weaving piece at the Arizona State Fair Student Art Competition . Assorted Honors- 57

A 451' February ninth, thirty-nine FBLA members from Chandler High School Chapter attended the Winter Regional Conference at Central Arizona College. At this conference eight other school chapters competed in events such as Business Law, Beginning and Advanced Bookkeeping, Beginning and Ad- vanced Shorthand, Beginning and Advanced Typing. Only three members from each chapter could participate in a con- test. A tour of the CAC campus and various workshops were provided for those non- participating members. Chandler High School had four members who were awarded five places. Yvonne Ogles placed first in Beginning Shorthand and Cindy Duenas placed second in the same event. Cathy Krest tied for first place in Business Law and third in Advanced Typing. Dawn Hohl placed third in Beginning Typing. The State Conference will be held April 23 at ASU in Tempe. Here all the chapters in the State of Arizona will compete in numerous events in hopes of qualifying for a state officer's position which will be a. stepping stone for a national officer's post-- or to compete in the National Conference to be held in Denver, Colorado July 1-4. FBLA MEMBERS ATTEND REGIDNALS NORMA JEAN GETS AWARD Norma Jean Escandon was the recipient of a full scholarship which will fly her to Washington, D.C. to attend CloseUp. CloseUp is an educational program where High School students from all over the nation go to the capitol to learn about U.S. Government. Norma leaves in IVlay and will actually see and communicate with several very prominent U.S. political figures. BABB TAKES A BLUE FOR ART Randy Babb was awarded a gold key and a blue ribbon for an ink drawing he did of an Orc from the book The Lord of the Rings. His artwork was entered into the Scholastic Art Show. Re- ceiving a first place, the drawing was sent to New York City to be judged nationally. 59-Assorted Honors
