CHICANOS UNIDOS GETS INVOLVED Chicanos Unidos officers this year were: the Christmas dance President Al DeLaCruz, Secretary Christina Chicanos Unidos also were active during Ortega, Treasurer Carmen Alvarado, and the Christmas holidays, when they helped to Sergeant-At-Arms Terri Escobedo. Bottom Right: Don Asselin, Sherri McCain, Robin Miller, Bett Bear consider the uestion Dou McCollum has Y fl 9 about the music. f get On January 29 this year the CHS Madrigals traveled to Marcos de Niza High School to rep- resent our school at the State Solo and En- semble Festival. They became the 13th Chan- dler group in consecutive years to attain the highest ranking offered a superior grade. CHS is the only school in the state to accomplish this. The choral group is coached by Mr. John Hollingshead, who plays a significant part in all the Madrigals do. Several of the members of the self-directing group sang their way to superior ratings on their own with serious solos. The day was capped with Regional Chorus tryouts. During the past year the Madrigals have sung for the Rotary Club, Women's Service Club, the dedication of Chandler Heights School, and a special performance at the state Capitol, which was heard by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Carolyn Warner. Numerous other performances were brought by the Christmas season, at which time it is not uncommon forthe students to present two or three programs a day.
