mented that there had been onlyS3O0 worth of vandal- ism at the school up to that time. Other points of pride were the 1976 Homecoming. l definitely one of the best ever l, the success of the Christmas Posada, and the Student Council trip to Win- dow Rock. Of the Council trip, IVIr. Caccamo said, We had a small delegation, but it pulled lots of weight. I was complimented by five other advisors on the be- havior ofthe kids . People couldn't believe we were from a high school. Asked to expand on his work with the Student Coun- cil, IVIr. Caccamo said, I had to do a minimum-IVIrs. Layman is a super sponsor and Dinah has been a super president. When there's a project, the kids take off and do it on their own. I'm glad to see people are saying, 'WeII, CHS did this, and CHS did that' . There have been some problems. Dr. Conley said, 'Our biggest problem was our August 16 arrival. We didn't know what to expect, we had no idea how organized we would be. IVlr. Caccamo added, lt's just like walking onto a ship-the engine is there, but will it start? IVIr. Teegerstrom agreed with the others that their late arrival was a handicap, but felt that he had a great asset in hav- ing worked with Dr. Conley for two years at Shadow lVlountain . IVIr. Caccamo felt that the biggest asset was the size of Chandler High. lt's just big enough to provide almost anything, but isn't too large. Dr. Conley agreed . At Paradise Valley I might never see the stu- dents on the weekend . Now I see them outside of school all the time. Conley and Teegerstrom both felt that Chandler is a much more personal com- munity than the Phoenix area. Said Teegerstrom, Here it's friendly and close, with more participation. There's more personal iden- tity with a community school than with one in a larger area. 'f All three of the men had heard a great deal about Chandler before accepting their present positions . lVlr. Caccamo said, Nly mailman in New York was a Chandler boy. I knew every nook and cranny of CHS before I ever came here . Laughingly, He said it was alittle school in a cotton patch. Dr. Conley had heard of the CHS basketball and debate teams, as had lVIr. Teeger- strom. Added Teegerstrom, Above: Mr. Caccamo heard about Chandler through his mailman in New York. lVlost of it was very good . A lot of good Chandler people come back here to live . That's a very good sign. It shows there are deep roots here to grab on to. Teegerstrom enjoys the Chandler position. l've been real pleased with the student body, faculty, and citizens. He especially looks forward to working with the School Team Approach for Preventing and Reducing Crime and Disruptive Be- havior, and feels that the committee adds a new di- mension to an approach that is needed . So far, said the team, things have worked out well. Dr. Conley said, We still have a car problem at noon. I wish we could whip that one. Smoking on campus is something else to work on . IVIr.
