mented that there had been onlyS3O0 worth of vandal- ism at the school up to that time. Other points of pride were the 1976 Homecoming. l definitely one of the best ever l, the success of the Christmas Posada, and the Student Council trip to Win- dow Rock. Of the Council trip, IVIr. Caccamo said, We had a small delegation, but it pulled lots of weight. I was complimented by five other advisors on the be- havior ofthe kids . People couldn't believe we were from a high school. Asked to expand on his work with the Student Coun- cil, IVIr. Caccamo said, I had to do a minimum-IVIrs. Layman is a super sponsor and Dinah has been a super president. When there's a project, the kids take off and do it on their own. I'm glad to see people are saying, 'WeII, CHS did this, and CHS did that' . Caccamo recommended the group for Above: Mr. Teegerstrom handles most disciplinary problems. Left: Dr. Conley enjoys working at Chandler High, Arizona Student Council of the Year. There have been some problems. Dr. Conley said, 'Our biggest problem was our August 16 arrival. We didn't know what to expect, we had no idea how organized we would be. IVlr. Caccamo added, lt's just like walking onto a ship-the engine is there, but will it start? IVIr. Teegerstrom agreed with the others that their late arrival was a handicap, but felt that he had a great asset in hav- ing worked with Dr. Conley for two years at Shadow lVlountain . IVIr. Caccamo felt that the biggest asset was the size of Chandler High. lt's just big enough to provide almost anything, but isn't too large. Dr. Conley agreed . At Paradise Valley I might never see the stu- dents on the weekend . Now I see them outside of school all the time. Conley and Teegerstrom both felt that Chandler is a much more personal com- munity than the Phoenix area. Said Teegerstrom, Here it's friendly and close, with more participation. There's more personal iden- tity with a community school than with one in a larger area. 'f All three of the men had heard a great deal about Chandler before accepting their present positions . lVlr. Caccamo said, Nly mailman in New York was a Chandler boy. I knew every nook and cranny of CHS before I ever came here . Laughingly, He said it was alittle school in a cotton patch. Dr. Conley had heard of the CHS basketball and debate teams, as had lVIr. Teeger- strom. Added Teegerstrom, Above: Mr. Caccamo heard about Chandler through his mailman in New York. lVlost of it was very good . A lot of good Chandler people come back here to live . That's a very good sign. It shows there are deep roots here to grab on to. Teegerstrom enjoys the Chandler position. l've been real pleased with the student body, faculty, and citizens. He especially looks forward to working with the School Team Approach for Preventing and Reducing Crime and Disruptive Be- havior, and feels that the committee adds a new di- mension to an approach that is needed . So far, said the team, things have worked out well. Dr. Conley said, We still have a car problem at noon. I wish we could whip that one. Smoking on campus is something else to work on . IVIr. Caccamo felt the same way. Yes, the whole school should be a lot tighter. In Their Own Words 97

96-In T IN THEIR OWN NEW ADMINISTRATORS CONLEY, TEEGERSTROM, AND CACCAMO EXPLAIN THEIR VIEWS AND POLICIES AT CHS Chandler High School underwent a complete changeover in administration early this August. Replacing Principal John Semanek, Assistant Principals Harry Bowers and Joe Terrell were Dr. Howard Conley, Robert Caccamo, and William Teegerstrom. Dr. Conley, father of four, has a long administrative history, be- ginning with his post in New lVIexico. After serving as an assistant principal of Shadow Mountain High School, he came to CHS. lVlr. Caccamo, perhaps the most ivsible of the three because of his in- volvement in student activi- ties, is also married and has two children. ln recent years he has been an administrator on Long lsland, New York. IVIr. Teegerstrom, father of five sons, came to Chandler after a teachingfcoaching position in Kansas and serv- ing as an administrator in Wyoming. The past two years he has spent as a Shadow lVIountain High As- sistant Principal. Early in February the new adminis- trators discussed themselves and their positions at Chandler High with El Lobo editors . A totally positive air has engulfed CHS during the 1976-1977 year. It is often attributed to the new staff. Asked if their admin- istration has any ovenfvhelm- ing philosophy, Dr. Conley said, I think we all want to treat kids the way we want our own kids to be treated . Conley pointed out that ad- ministration is a team effort, we all perform one service. As principal, Dr. Con- ley's first responsibility is the school as awhole and all its happenings. In order to cover all bases, he must delegate responsibility to assistant principals and de- partment heads . The area given to IVlr. Caccamo in- cludes supervision ofthe bookstore, scheduling and overseeing of all student and teacher activities, and all of the accompanying paperwork and details . Said Caccamo, l make sure everything runs right. The third member of h , -, . 1.,....,..5..J..-'sw the team, iVIr. Teegerstrom, is in charge of all attendance and disciplinary matters. He also works with lVIr. Caccamo on athletics . Each of the administra- tors feel that the 1976- 1977 school year has gone extremely well . It's been fantastic! Dr. Conley said . We like the kids' manners, behavior, openness-every- thing. IVlr. Caccamo noted how friendly Chandler students are, and added that they similarly impress people out- side the school. Our kids are great! he said. We're really proud of them. The Fiesta Bowl was a good ex- ample . Each of the three were amazed by OCH and com-
