From planning multi-national exercises such as F OAL EAGLE and ANNUALEX to routine Battle Group task- ing, Operations Department is at the heart of the rigorous schedule ofa Forward-deployed cruiser The task of operating the complex sensors, radars, and communication equipment of CHAN CELLORS VILLE falls on the depart- ment. As operators, the primary mission ofthe ship, air warfare, falls squarely on the Opera- tions Specialists who man the air watches and LINK consoles. Improving the ship is physical appearance and seaworthiness is a major task, and often a thankless one, of Deck Division, the largest component ofthe department. Finally, the task of gathering information, both real-time communications and intelligence is Cl major role of Operations Department.
