Captain Gordon H. Rheinstrom Commanding Officer Captain Rheinslrom was born in Evanston, Illinois He attended Denison University, Granville. Onto, where he received a Bachelor o1 Arts Degree He was commissioned an Ensign uponcompiet ion otOtticer Candidate School in Jjly 1966 Captain Rheinslrom served in USS MOUNT McKINLEY (LCC 7) and USS JULIUS A FURER (FFG 6) until August 1969 Upon completing the Depart- ment Head Course at the Naval Destroyer School in March 1970. Captain Rheinslrom served as Operations Officers, USS MANSFIELD (DD 728) and Weapons Officer. USS EVERSOLE (DD 789) Following a tour as an instructor in the Tactical Action Officer Course. Fleet Combat Direction Systems Train- ing Center, Pacific, Captain Rheinstrom assumed command of USS GRAND RAPIDS (PG 98) in February 1973 Forward deployed to the Sixth Fleet throughout most of his tour Captain Rheinstrom. was relieved in Naples. Italy in August 1974 From November 1974 to May 1976, he served in USS HAW- KINS IDD 873) as Executive Officer, Upon detachment Captain Rheinstrom reported for duty as Junior Officer Assignment Officer in the Bureau of Naval Personnel In December 1977, he reported to the Office of the Chief ol Naval Operationsand served as Aide Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Surface Warfare) until February 1980 From July 1980 to December 1981. Captain Rheinstrom served as Executive Officer m USS FOX (CG 33) He commanded USS FLETCHER (DD 992) from August 1982 to July 1984 In August 1984. he reported for duty at the Naval Military Personnel Command, first as Head. Surface Junior Officer Assignment Branch and in April 1989, Captain Rheinstrom assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of the Pre-Commissioning Unit CHANCELLORSVILLE He assumed command of USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) upon her commissioning on 4 November 1989 Captain Rheinstrom has been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star in heu of third award and the Navy Commenda- tion Medal In addition, he is authorized to wear the Meritorious Unit Citation and various Theatre and Service Medals. Captain Rheinstrom is married to the former Judith Allyn of Hingham. Massachusetts. The Rheinstroms have two daughters. Victoria and Elizabeth, and reside m Annandale. Virginia qm m
