LCDR Matthew Sharpe LCDR Patrick O ' Kane Engineering Department A native of Minoa. NY, Lieutenant Commander O ' Kane attende d the United States Naval Academy. Graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Histo- ry, he reported to the Surface Warfare Officer Basic Course in Coronado, California. From February 1982 until March 1984, he served as Engineer Officer and Damage Control Assistant in USS IMPLICIT (MS055) qualifying as a Surface Warfare Officer In October 1982. In June 1984, LCDR O ' Kane was assigned to USS CONSTELLATION under the Aircraft Carrier Readiness Improvement Pro- gram serving as Propulsion Material Officer, Forward Propulsion Group Officer, and Repair V Locker Leader. CONSTELLATION completed a Seventh Fleet deployment earning the COMNAVAIRPAC Battle Efficiency Award. In March 1986, he reported to the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI to attend the Department Head Course. After graduation, he was assigned as Engineering Officer in USS CUSHING (DD985). From December 1986 until July 1988, CUSHING served at flagship for Commander Destroyer Squadron Thirty One, the Pacific Fleet ASW Squadron, winning a third consecutive Battle Effi- ciency Award. His department was awarded four consecutive awards for Engi- neering and Damage Control Excellence. Upon completion of his tour on CUSHING, LCDR O ' Kane reported to Pasca- goula. MS to begin his present assignment as Engineering Officer on USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG62). LCDR O ' Kane ' s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (with Gold Star) and the Navy Achievement Medal (with Gold Star). LCDR O ' Kane currently resides in Chula Vista, California. ENGINEERING MISSION The Engineering Department is re- sponsible for the operation and main- tenance of all propulsion, electrical, mechanical and auxiliary systems and the maintenance of watertight integri- ty. 24
