The Board ot Education The Board of Education, the legal representative of the people, is elected by the voters to decide the general principles and policies of our school system, District Number 71. Servants of the community, these public-minded citizens serve Without pay. The school board is composed of seven members, each elected for a three-year term. The president is elected to his position by the voters, while the secretary is chosen from the members. The present board consists of D. li. Hux- table, president, Mrs. Ralph Kelly, secretary, C. E. Bowen, Donald E. Vance, Dr. G. E. Hunt, Dr. XV. E. Schowengerdtg and Mrs. J. E. Mc- Ginty. Miss Carrie Busey, appointed to her position, serves as clerk. The dean of the board, Dr. XV. E. Schowengerdt, has served for over thirty years. Regular sessions of the board are held the first Thursday of each month, With special and called meetings as the demand arises. The responsibilities of the board are shared through appointed com- mittees, but decisions on questions involving the schools, operations are based on majority action of the board. The 1946 Maroon
