u.u1..'. Members of the Class of '47: During your senior year the decision - a momentous decision for you - was reached by His Grace, the Most Reverend Archbishop, that it there is to be a new Chaminade it must come from Chaminade's alumni. You are now alumni. Others have failed, you must succeed. The Brothers of Mary bore the brunt of supplying higher education to the Catholics of Dayton for almost a hundred years. Learned and religious men in a long procession have given their utmost on the elementary, intermediate, and collegiate levels. Their meager financial resources were used to back up their educational endeavors to the point of exhaustion. They have no more to give. The Fathers Club became interested, They met week after week, they plotted and planned in dead earnestness for ways and means to provide for their sons a respectable school building. Now they have had to withdraw from the field of battle. That puts the future of Chaminade squarely into your hands. You have been sent by the Arch- bishop to carry the ball. While it is true that the worth of a school is measured more by the moral character of its teachers and the manly spirit of its students than by the polished marble in its halls, it is likewise true that there comes a time when the lofty purpose of the school is out of all proportion to the material surroundings in which that purpose must be worked out. All of us feel that point has now been reached. Your spirit of loyalty to your Alma Mater must urge you on to correct what is now so wrong, to build up in this Gem City a Chaminade High of which you can be proud, a school where the undying principles of Father Chaminade, the principles of our Catholic faith will be perpetuated for your own sons and for future generations. Class of '47, congratulations! Congratulations on your successful graduation from Chaminade, congratulations on the enviable record you have compiled scholastically, religiously, and athletically while you were on the way. Success to you in the battle you will now enter as sons of the Mother of God and men of Chaminade. Faithfully yours in J.M.J., I I Principal, Page 5
