agn obag Dlor Seniorat DO not know where the use of D day, to denote the possible date of invasion I of Fortress Europe, originated, but it has expressed the timing at an event. tiG', day as representing the time of graduation of Central Vocational High School seniors, also represents D day for you men of the class of 1944. For it is the time at which you Will be invading the industrial and military world situations awaiting you. It is naturally true that for most of the graduates the day ot induction is not far off. For a considerable number of you that day has already passed; for others it will be but a matter of days, of weeks, or at most, of a few months. Some ot you. of course, will have a short time to spend in industry before you move into the armed forces of your country. ' Whatever your lot, you men as graduates of Central Vocational High School are prepared. Records over the wartime years show that graduates of any and all depart- ments of Central Vocational High School constitute the types of trained individuals most sought after by both industry and the armed services There is little need in saying again that the nation is being saved and victory assured by young men With the kind of training received by you men at Central. It is an accepted fact in all walks of lite and all quarters of the world, that technical skills have tipped the balance in our favori Even our enemies must realize the situation which so openly, or obviously, speaks for itself. Throughout the nation, in tact throughout the world, our government has made an attempt to set up training courses to duplicate the type of training oftered at Central. Two things have made their task difficult. The first is equipment, and the second is teachers. Whereas inexperienced teachers are used by the newer training ventures, the members of the class of 1944 have had the experience of working under seasoned instructors. With reference to equipment, it is well known that it would be difficult to find better than we possess anywhere in the world And so it is acknowledged that the preparation of you graduates of '44 for your place in the world has been excellent. Your moral character is good, otherwise members of the faculty would not have recommended you to receive diplomas Which carry that recommendation. What, then, remains to be accomplished? To you men going out from our ranks at this time I say, it now remains for you to establish yourselves as worthy members of the large group of alumni of Central, Who have won praise and high credit for Cincinnati Vocational High School in the four corners of the earth, Therein lies the challenge to you as a member of the class of '44. Your school, city, state and nation have served you many years in preparing you for the years which lie ahead. It is now your opportunity to serve them, and in this service to find the pleasure and fullness of real living. RAY F. KUNS I81
