Craftsmanship Reveals Beauty In Plain Mesquite From an unusually large trunk of an ordinary desert mesquite tree, wood shop student John Payne fashioned an unique end-table. His careful work showed the homely ma- terial for what it can be: a lustrous, beauti- fully grained hardwood. Here in wood shop, as well as in all its other courses, one goal of the Industrial Arts De- partment is to provide every kid with one or more skills of immediate vocational value. Other courses include graphic arts, mechan- ical drawing, metal shop, auto shop, elec- tronics, and agriculture. The newest courses are carpentry and technical illustration. Kenneth Holmes Dept.
