DUPONT Behind every president is a hard-working body of persons known as the Cabinet. At C.U.H.S., the president is Mr. Weakley and the cabinet, our eminent board of trustees. However, these men and women not only advise but also adopt rules and regulations for the betterment of our school. This year, their iob was even more difficult since their task was to keep the system work- ing smoothly and calmly when the order of our lives was being changed by the upheaval of war. Much gratitude is due them for work accomplished. seemingly uncredited by the student body. but in reality, deeply appreciated. MARSH. THORNBURGv MCNEECE. PROCSAL, ZAVALA. MR. GILPIN. CONSOLE- SHELBURNE BAXTER. HIGGINBOTHAM. MORRIS. INGLE Will the meeting please come to order? The secretary will read the minutes. So begins another session of the Supreme Court, alias the Board of Commissioners, at 8:30 A. M. on any Tuesday morning. The first semester was spent mainly in feeding the pig-bank by a unique system of fines for tardiness, excessive chatter, studying during meetings, and forgetfulness to perform an assigned task. But the second semester the eleven buckled down to work and accomplished much creditable business. Class of '43, you'll have to be good to beat this bunch! Vice President in charge of the Supreme Court-better known as our own Mr. Gilpin, ad- viser to the Board of Commissioners. He remains sweet-tempered and iust, as a balance-wheel between the students of Central and the admin- istration-a somewhat hectic iob. We all will remember Mr. Gilpin as a sympathetic friend and a Good Ice. The student body votes a cheer of thanks to you-Chief Iustice-and we all hope that you enioyed your first year here enough to remain longer. IIUMMISSIUNERS CULTY The faculty of Central High School has attempted to give every consideration possible toward redirecting the educational program to enable us to meet the changing conditions of a world at war. Many courses have been added to the shop department in particular which meet the needs oi the National Defense program. Machinery runs till late at night as students are prepared to take their place in the many defense industries. Students have been encouraged to take more mathematics in order that they might be better prepared for all types of military service to which they will be called, whether in industry or regular combat service. The commercial department has speeded up their courses in order to prepare more students to take over iobs and thus meet the increased demand for skilled typists and stenographers. A special committee is working on health and safety. since physical fit- ness is more necessary than ever before. At the same time the faculty has kept ever betore us the importance of doing well the regular, ordinary. every day program of education. H. K. MCCRACKEIN B.S.Z M.A. G. E. SPENCER B.S.3 IVI.S. A. Central High also must have an efficiently operated office in order to keep all the school affairs running in good order. The office staff at Central has given us iust the type of smooth running office that any business desires. Frances Binkley, Frances Sundstrom, and Mrs. Powers have conducted the offices of the school in a most successful manner this year. Any one who finds it necessary to visit the office is as- sured that he will be met in a courteous manner. and served with the utmost efficiency. GRACE MAEDA TAMIKO KODAMA Time marches on: and keeping in perfect step, the Senior Class bids farewell to their High School Days, and more go in search of higher goals. Always active, the Seniors have accomplished much in fields such as athletics. C. S. F., and all extra curricular activities. Don't Take My Penny, the dra- matic achievement scored a direct hit. Starring in this memor- able production were such talented seniors as Betty Mae Duer, Ierry Havens, Helen Beronio, Bill Hess, Roberta Shel- burne, and many others. Everyone played his part sympa- thetically and well. Unity and loyalty describe Maiorette Carmen Vinirido's Sergeanettes and Captain Stanley Con- key's Champs, when the brought victory to their Alma Mater. Leading Lights of the senior class this year were: dynamic President Gene Oswalt, who presided competently over the senior meetings: popular Vice-President Bennie Derrick, who took over occasionally: charming secretary Ioy Pollard. who read the minutes of each meeting: and hard working treasurer Alberta Hanson who saw to it that funds in the senior class bank were sufficient to cover the cost of the senior's present to the school. They were grand leaders of a grand class. Carrying scholastic banners are Aliton Marsh and W. I. Thomburg. Aces All refers to lack Hems on the tennis courts. Senior Dress Up Day proved to be a hilarious and amusing event for all. The Senior Dance which may be described as another Senior Dress Up Day since every senior appeared in his best bib and tucker, proved to be one of the most outstanding social events of the year. The hands of time continue their eternal iourney as the Senior Class of 42 convey their appreciation and thanks to Miss Newcomer and Mr. Allen, their advisers, and say Adieu. 5e'd, HELEN MAE BERONIO --....n 'S ALBERT SANDOVAL PATRICIA BUCKLIN ROBERTA SHELBURNE BILL DEAVER FRED HIGGINBOTHAM CECIL KIMBERLING HENRY OKAMURA li NECMA MORRIS JOHN HAWLE1 LEN MAE BERONIOS LA SOLANA -42: G. A lighting Spartan eleven blasted their way to the very pinnacle of achievement this year. The well-oiled football machine started slowly. but as the season progressed Coach Holt's Spartans began to click. Blocking, tackling. and timing of plays improved in each game. and the Spartans rolled to victory alter victory. The team exhibited true cham- pionship qualities on every occasion. In two oi the crucial contests the scrappy Spar- tans were on the short end of the score at the end of the hall, and in both contests they blasted their opposition out of the league race by a determined last half rally. The Spartan machine reached its peak in the Thanksgiving day game against Cal- exico. A victory practically assured Central of the League Championship, and the team came through like champions as they smashed their way to a 33-0 victory. I. Actualli the team should be classed as Iunior Varsity as few of the Valley team: use B players exclusively in league games. The Iunior Varsity won the league championship as did their big brothers. The Spartan team only tasted defeat on one trip to the gridiron and that was at the hands of the Calipatria Varsity team. This defeat was wiped off the slate as the El Cen tro Iayvees held the same eleven to a tie in a return engagement. ON, L: 84 0 S1735 Q 4 12025 A NS UUE' The smooth passing, fast breaking Spartan five compiled a most impressive record for themselves on the hardwood this year. The locals racked up victor- ies over ten teams during the season, and only bowed in deteat in two league encounters. Calexico's well-oiled champions turned back the Spartan hoop- sters twice by scores of 34 to 21 and 43 to 25. In other league games the blue and white emerged on the long end of the scores. Brawley was thumped 30 to 18 and 40 to 38: Imperial bowed 37 to 18 and 31 to 26, while Calipatria dropped twin decisions 31 to 22 and 21 to 19. Holtville was defeated 35 to 16. Only two points kept the boys from the conference title, as they dropped two one-point thrillers to Calexico. The second Calexico game was the high point of the season. After trailing by twelve points at the quarter, the Spartan youngsters pulled even at half and forged ahead iust before the final gun. Their one point lead was erased by a long shot just at the gun, and their title hopes went glimmering. Chickahisa, Nakahara, Iacobs. Ko- bata. Muncil, Horibe, and Miyata made up the B squad. The most spectacular drill of the season was their blackout drill. The whole iield was blacked out, and from both ends of the field c l' h ame ig ted feet, drumsticks, and batons.
